Once this one gets built I will have 3 as well:I have 3 quarter bore rifles.. and depending on what case your would like to use", also what speed and bullet you will desire!.
The Howa will make a fine rifle. They are super common internationally with good success. Decent aftermarket support too (better than Savage, anyway). Deciding factor will be the barrel, as always. What you guys think?...my older 250 savage is built on a marlin x7 SA. This time i wanted a drop out magazine. Hence the Howa SA.
This is correct. But I only have the barrel and reamer currently. Plan is to build on another Defiance action so I can swap barrels with my current rifle, meaning I can have the barrel made and headspaced on my current action. Black Friday deals may allow for sourcing of a couple more items, like a chassis and mags (hopefully)I think he went with the 25-47L.
Is your barrel 1:8.5tw or 1:7.5tw?I just got my new JGS reamer for 250 savage Ackley. With a .900 freebore will use a brux 8.5 twist barrel on a used Howa 1500 SA.
Brux 1n8.5 was a special order through BRUX website. Is your barrel 1:8.5tw or 1:7.5tw?
I ask because there were two Brux 1:7.5tw on Blackjacks website recently. Someone snagged the Rem Vmt contour before me, so I just bought another Hvy Vmt profile. Ended up being a good thing because I think a Proof CF prefit will be a better way to go for keeping weight down in the Hunter series.
Something sounds off on the Ackley Bob barrel. A 1:9t should have no problem stabilizing the 115s. The 120s don’t even require as fast of a twist as the 115s, so that makes it even more odd. I wonder if having your barrel recrowned would fix any erratic behavior.I have 9twist on my 257Bob Ackley and it barely stabilizes 115 Berger and nosler 120 noslers.
At 500+ yards. Maybe is the barrel" thus the reason for the 1n8.5 twist on the 250 Ackley
The Bob wont wear out any time soon as I dont shoot it much.
But my .25 grendel gets shot every weekend and that sure is a dandy little rifle very economical and reaches the enough speed to drive the 120's
And that 7.7 twist sure hell works.
