just finished my first barrel swap and just want make sure its right. screwed action on barrel using a go gauge, the bolt closes good on the go gauge. then put scotch tape on the go gauge and bolt will not close. is this good? the feel is good with full length sized brass, not sloppy or tight. thanks from a newbie.. o its a savage mod 10 in 260 rem, torqued the nut to 40 ft lb

Sounds OK but you really should invest a minimal amount in a No-Go gauge at some point. I like to have a snug fit on a Go gauge. If this is not a Savage action, once you have a barrel torque you like for God's sake index the action/barrel (scribe or punch a line on each that line up when correct) so you don't even need the gauges. No need to go crazy with barrel torque for a switch barrel rifle but do check the index on occasion.

I have always done it the same way on my Remington 700's and a Bat. Works everytime with the exact same headspace dimension on the fired cases. I've never had to re-adjust a FL neck bushing sizing die. I'm using 65 ft. lb. torqued with a auto mechanics Snap-On 200 ft. lb. capacity. Also using the index reference marks at the barrel/receiver joint and have never seen any movement, ever.

+1 on Preacher. My no go is a piece of scotch tape on a go guage & my perfect fit won't let the bolt close with the tape.

thanks guys, just wanted make sure didnt mess up. actually got to test at 100 yards today. best group was .480 and worse was .700 with most in the .550 range so am pretty happy with first loads tried. tried varget and h4350 both with 123smk using win 7-08 brass sized down to my 260 rem. its the criterion bbl from nss. i know not great groups but seems pretty consistent so will try diff variations.
