Great Experience with Sharp Shooter Supply

I sent 2 action out to Fred and Lisa at SSS on 4/22/2023. I sent it Registered with Signature Receipt and it took 10 days I think just to get to them.

I got them back today 6/5/2023.

All of the older information I saw on this site complained a lot about long turn around times. I did not experience that at all. IN my book that is really fast turn around time.

I heard a lot of people complain of bad customer service and hard to reach Lisa. Lisa communicated with me plenty more than I expected and was pleasant and super friendly. When I had any questions she was easy to reach and never more than 24 hours between email and response it was probably more like 12 hours or less.

This was my first time using Sharp Shooter Supply aka SSS and while I had no contact with Fred Lisa was fantastic to deal with.

Even just working the actions in my hands I could tell a huge difference in the amount of force required to operate the action. I have not had a chance to get new barrels threaded and chambered for them yet.

Since my experience was so positive I figured I should share it. I have never met Fred or Lisa IRL and they owed me nothing I am just some random guy using them for the first time. My point is I am no one special that got special treatment. I do not say this to discredit anyone or minimize their experience just that mine was overwhelmingly positive.

I hope this helps anyone sitting on the fence that might be thinking about using SSS but has reservations because of some of the less than stellar reviews of SSS on this site relating to turn around times and customer service. People that have had a bad experience tend to be much more vocal about sharing the negative experience than people that have had a positive experience.

Good luck and God Bless!

Can I ask what you had them do.
I had them blueprint the actions and re-time them. I had them machine the stock barrel nuts. I purchased two of their precision recoil lugs.

So the receiver face, locking lug abetments, caming surface on locking lug abutments, face of the bolt lugs, bolt face, barrel nut face etc....

I am not doing BR with a Savage so I did not ask about bushing the the firepin. The floating bolt head design makes it not necessary to do raceway work in my opinion.

So other than the barrel nuts which he did not charge me anything extra for I think this is all his standard package for $175 per action. The custom recoil lugs was a seperate price I think it was $25 or $28 per recoil lug.

If you are going to send in your action send your barrel nuts as well unless you plan on using aftermarket barrel nuts. I am a cheap skate but I also know how important it is to have everything concentric, plumb, parallel and true!

I am glad I ponied up for the custom recoil lugs those are night and day superior to what Savage uses.

I have never done Savage builds and never owned Savages before. To be honest from about 1982 up until about 2013 I was a bit of a snob when it came to actions and prior to then I would never have purchased or used a Savage or a Ruger American. After careful critical inspection and thought I reconsidered this and learned to appreciate the things I previously hated about them.

Sometimes one has to reexamine what they believe or value and why? So the critical part of my brain kicked in and said why not.

So I am not some fan boy that has 20 Savage 110's or has a long history of being a fan boy. Sometimes though you have to think critically and not emotionally! I really like Toyota and Lexus vehicles and engines. That said if I wanted to build power on a budget I would go General Motors LS or LT V8 all day long and twice on Sunday! Sometimes it is not about who make the best widget sometimes it is about who makes a widget I can modify for extreme performance at the price point I want! That is a different ball of wax than who makes the better widget!

My understanding is Fred runs truing and timing in batches, so your wait time depends on how your schedule meshes with this. Years ago I purchased one of his personal actions; the operability was quite smooth and his trigger design was crisp.

I had 2 Savage target actions timed and trued (supposedly) by Fred Moreo. You need to inspect them pretty well. I could see nothing recut other than bolt face. They install a lift kit, polish it and then grind about half of the firing pin spring away. Pull it out and look at it, you'll see where it's been rolled on a belt grinder. There is your easier bolt lift. With the stock accu-trigger about as light as you'll ever get it set is around 8-10 ounces. At that level, if your not super careful, the trigger will lock up on bolt close. The Savages shoot pretty good but the actions are not in the ball park with Kelbly, Bat or Borden actions. I know you won't believe it but until you shoot a match with one of the above with a trigger set at 1, 1-1/2 ounces but there is a HUGE difference in quality.
