Good for a laugh

They have bigger rabbits out west! Might need something bigger for them.

I think my wildcat Hornet 416 will be perfect for that wabbit.

I don't know snert, you may want to open that sucker up to the legendary 460 Lott improved Hornet. Looks like a bigger than average bunny. It would make a pretty big pot of Hasenpfeffer.

Not sure the hornet's thin brass could handle the abrupt shoulder. Maybe a maximized 357 case? Gotta thik outside the box on these things.

Now, back to my favorite subject, estimating range. what do you guys find works best?

I use duct tape to reinforce that thin wall. When I have to go really heavy loads I put an extra layer wrap of baler twine on.

I would have thought a knowledgeable fellow shootist would have figured that out.:) :)

Now estimating range is simple, have your shooting partner (the not too bright one)walk out to the target & count his steps. It really helps to be wearing sandals to count the really long range shots.

Sorry ! To disagree on the baler twine
But I found it fouls the barrel after ten or fifteen shots,
PS I step out my hunting buddies shot's all the time !!
But I won't take offense on the not so bright comment, because I wear boots !

Since I am a tecno-geek, I direct my partner using a radio. But I had not thought of the sandal thing! genius. I noted that AB Bentley wears those rubber clog things,a s does his bro. Seen them in photos of dead groundhogs he has shot. I think I might have to ask him up for a hunt, to test the theory. i will put in my hearing aid, tell him to start walkin, and count the flappy sounds. Better than trying to use the radio and count steps at the same time. This way I can just close my eyes, sit back and listen while he walks. Pure genius.

But what should I do BEFORE I shoot to estimate range. I used to make a general guess and then let my partner shoot first. After he fired I could set my scope and get the hit. But I don't have any partners anymore.

And my kid took up fly fishing and refuses to go with me anymore too...said he got tired. Not sure why. maybe something to do with his liberal education and the child labor movement.

I suppose you're one of those uninformed who hasn't yet learned the proper way to get rid of all the nasty swirly things in your bore that keep catching the fouling & copper, so let me let you in on the secret. It involves using a portable drill with appropriate rebar wrapped with 120 grit. Take a hint, it really gets rid of all those nasty high spots that keep circling the inside of the barrel along with all the fouling. The first time takes a few battery charges to get it nice, smooth & shiny. It also helps to use 60 grit the very first time, after that 120 will do :)

Picked up some big bore honing bones

I don't know much about your rabbit's ,do your cook get this angry

I bet you could really hone those nasties out with that leg bone.
BTW, how did you get my baby sister's picture (the bottom pic)??? That was obviously taken in daylight & we don't let her out of the celler during the day, she kept scaring the animals.

Stork.

Thank you for your intension to help with accuracy!! I know to some of the other less informed, this info is pure gold !! ( but I twist on the out side )
Don't feel bad some people are a little more out there than others !;)

When I step out my partners shot, I stand up straight and still,he know I'm 6'1" and can calculate when he takes the shot I pick it up and bring it back!
Works out really good!!?

I had avoided the Hornet Lott 460, until now. I think that bone would hone out the bushing for that round. However, how the heck can I deep fry that sucker? I still have a gallon of Sweet Bay Baby rays sauce, and I think it would be enough. Do you think I could heat up enough oil in a 55 gal drum to cook that thing?

I have seen (yes true story) a Sgt clean a model ??? Savage police 308 using a drill, a stainless brush and he did it from the muzzle. Took care of that rifle real good he did he did. That was when I realized I would never obtain rank...them's boys was simply too smart fer me. I decided then and there I would work on other more nuanced techniques for obtaining accuracy, and I never shared any thing I learned with that guy. Afraid he would claim it as his own, ya know.

And now I see that Stork must have been the Sgt's Bro in law. I did not see that coming. Till now I thought I might keep up with ol' Stork, but I see he is at least one caliber higher on the intelectual scale than little ol' me. So I will diffuse to him in matters of barrel cleaning. I will, however, continue my pursuit of other toolbox ideas for better, more accurate shooting. I am starting to think that there must be a better way to weigh powder. And then there is that pesky donut thing...though I like the coffee idea mentioned. And what about making the bolt lugs contact more evenly on the lug nuts in the chamber? I think a lot of accuracy is lost there. gotta be a way to clean that up so I can shoot more 50 click groundhogs.....

I know I was paranoid about stork before !!! But come on he seem to pull all these techniques from thin air ?

And I still want to know how my misses knows what he looks like
Think I'll start paying his post a bit more attention, he'll slip up sooner or later
It just all to coincidental !!

Weigh loads I'm a little confused , do you mean weigh the round after you compress as much powder as possible,
Or am i missing something ?
I've never found a primer flat on the boltface, so I know it's not over loaded!
Most of the time I can't Even find the primer's which is further evidence of good clean load development

Bolt lugs
That something I would like to learn more about, I don't think I had a very good smith every time I fire a shot the bolt gets jammed, so I took it back to my smith, he said something about being "compression welded " but I knew he was covering up, so now I just carry 18" 3/4 pipe slide over bolt handle, some times it still really hard to open,
Any ideas ?
Maybe i need a better lube ?
Remember I don't want to do anything that could be considered unsafe !!
