FREEDOM BENCHREST

I understand the family thing for sure. One question i was wondering about is the one about competitor numbers. You get points for total number of competitors, are you going to track every competitor at say an ibs match in memphis, regardless of how many claim to be in freedom benchrest, or do they declare that at signup they also want to be in the freedom benchrest points. In other words, if theres 100 competitors and the winner is a freedom br supporter, and nobody else there agrees with it and didnt sign up, does that winner get zero points or 99? This was in response to your points system reply earlier in the week.
For the year 2023, We will apply our point system, which is identical to the IBS 600 system, to all matches available to us. It is an attendance based awards program. The system may exclude competitors if they choose not to be included. At that time, they would also exclude themselves from year end honors. They would need to let the Match Director know this, if that is their choice. At the end of the year of competition we will reward the highest point earner, using their best five matches, at the 600 and 1000 Yard National events. It is our hope that all competitors would like to participate.
Sincerely

So, the specific answer to his question is........if the winner of that fictitious match was a FB member and the other 99 competitors were not FB members, then that match winner would get 0 points.
Most often the best answer to a specific question is a specific answer. unless you are an attorney or a politician.

I read it differently.

In all of my years in NBRSA Competitive Benchrest, I have seen two real “knock down drag out” events.
The first was the serious push to allow Tuners in the center fire formats.
Tuners were adopted.
The second was when establishing VFS as a Registered NBRSA class was proposed. Once again, the fangs came out.
VFS was adopted.

My point is, we worked within the system. There was a lot of push back on both proposals, but rather than “taking our ball and going home”, we worked with our Region Members, The Board of Directors, and came up with good presentations to help achieve a goal.

I came into Benchrest after the NBRSA/IBS split. As a new shooter then, it was difficult to fathom the visceral dislike that some members of the two organizations had towards each other. Regardless of the ‘explanations” that were presented, what it really came down to was hurt feelings and bruised egos.

At a time when both the NBRSA and IBS are beating the bushes for new members, starting a new Organization would seem counterproductive.

Only time will tell.
Jackie you hit the nail on the head. Where did what your talking about drive me. I no longer have a need to belong to any of the organizations. I support and shoot at local clubs with no National affiliations and am totally satisfied. Now they want to add new groups and split up the small number of bench shooters even more. Egos, that's the problem. I like the idea of the Tackdriver concept out on by a club, no affiliation required, but a match designed to attract those who wish to compete against others out of their normal area, or comfort zone.

Sounds simple enough in the quest to be in the Shooter of the Year program.

You can attend as many matches as you wish. If the Range, (Club) is recognized by Freedom Benchrest, your score, (figured the same way as IBS), will be recorded. At the end of the year, your best five scores will be compared to everybody else’s best five, the best score is declared FB Shooter of the Year.

A shooter has to submit at least five matches, but can shoot as many as they are able to arrive at the best five.

Is that about it?

Freedom Benchrest Championship Series 600 and 1000 Yard
The Freedom Benchrest 2023 series goal is to recognize the best Long Range 600 and 1000 yard shooters from all over the United States of America. No matter what organization or non-organization the shooter participates in. The Freedom Benchrest 2023 series will be a series of matches held all over the USA to determine who is the Best Long Range Benchrest shooter.
The 2023 rules are simple. The clubs run by the rules of the organization they chose to be affiliated with. The Freedom Benchrest will have a point system based on the number of shooters in the match and the position in which the shooter finishes. Freedom Benchrest will use points from a shooters 5 best matches held at any participating range for both 600 and 1000 yards.
The Freedom Benchrest 2023 series will end on 8/20/2023. The Freedom Benchrest Awards will be presented for 600 yards at Vapor Trail Valley’s match on 9/23/2023 The Freedom Benchrest Awards will be presented for 1000 yards at Whitehorse Firearms’ match on 9/2/2023
For 2023 only the clubs and shooters will have no membership or match fees to participate. Sponsorships and donations will be gladly accepted.
Club will have to summit their results to Blake Wilson @ Mbwilson82@gmail.com.
I'm really hoping that next year more matches can be held in the OH/MI/IL/IN area. I would love to come out and cheer people on.

Two questions:

1 can the rules be posted again? I can't get the one on page one to open.

2 is there a website that has all the information? Does it list the matches placed and dates with times. That's one way to get new people to the matches.

Thanks,
Forrest

Hi Clay, so our range just completed a new long range firing line. We still need to improve our pit\target area. We are shooting clays on the ground and steel plates at the moment. After shooting live pits at Sac Valley and White City is is very apparent that live pits are a much better way to get accurate feedback during the sighter period as apposed to shooting a steel plate that is already marked up. Unfortunately our range will never have the resources to build live pits and while I love working the pits and seeing the drama unfold many of the older shooters don’t care for it. This is a prototype I have built for our club and we are in the process of fund raising. Our hope is that the right side of this will be a shot marker target system for the sighter target and the left side will be our record target. Then each competitor can get accurate sighter info on each shot as compared to shooting a steel plate and hitting a previous mark and not knowing for sure where their impact was. I think will will be much better than what we have and a good alternative for the ranges that can never have a live pit setup.
Have you guy tried this format out yet?

Getting ready for our first BR match using etargets for eyes at 600, record targets will still be pulled and measured by hand. The etargets will allow all the shooters to see hits on both the sighter target and both record targets.

Most of our shooters are super excited about bringing the benefits of etargets (in this case shotmarker) to long range benchrest.
Special thanks to Adam MacDonald for helping us with this setup.

Hi Clay,
Please keep us updated on the use of etargets for 600 long range benchrest.

You got it!!

I bet scores go up......... and maybe I will even get an x once in a while.
CW
I honestly cannot wait to hear the feedback. Being able to accommodate for your shooters at your range to have the opportunity to see sighters, for once, has to be exciting for the shooters. Best of luck, high scores and tiny groups to all! The future is bright!
