Freedom Benchrest West Coast Nationals

Sloughhouse has been working with Freedom to put together the West Coast Nationals that blends the flavor and spirit of what Fredom Benchrest represents and still allows the character of where Sloughhouse has come from to shine. I believe that the mixing of the two has been a very positive experience for all involved.

Attached are the details that we have settled on which I think will make for a fun and challenging first West Coast Freedom Nationals. More details will be coming as we get closer.

Will there be camping allowed at the range?

SacValley does have accommodations for camping....they have a large area but it is all self-contained. I need to check on what their daily rate is. Once I get that I will post it.
In the past if you didn’t require them to provide electricity and you ran off your own small generator there was no charge to park your trailer. It’s a big parking area and a small group of us usually camp out. Bring what you need, it’s a pretty good hoof to the store:)

We have been checking with the range on the costs. Skedaddle is correct in his post that there has been no charge in the past. There have been some policy changes recently by the SacValley board so we are still verifying that this is still the case. If not, an update will be posted.

After some discussion internally and with Freedom Benchrest regarding the trophies that are provided for their National Level matches and looking at what NBRSA would typically provide, we think the best direction would be to align more with Freedom's trophy allocation.

NBRSA historically provided 47 trophies for the Nationals, which is a lot of trophies for a match that may only have 30 or less competitors. These were sourced and paid for my the hosting club. Freedom reduces this to 29 trophies, which are provided at no cost to the club. If we wanted to stay with the higher number, then this would need to be paid for by the club through increased entry fees. We felt that aligning more with Freedom's direction and reducing the entry fee was a better use of time and money.

Here is how the Freedom Benchrest Trophies are allocated.

For 600 Yards:
600 Yard Overall Winner (1)
Light Gun Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd for Group and Score (6)
Heavy Gun Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd for Group and Score (6)
Female Overall Winner (1)

Total = 14

For 1000 Yards:
1000 Yard Overall Winner (1)
Light Gun Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd for Group and Score (6)
Heavy Gun Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd for Group and Score (6)
Female Overall Winner (1)

Total = 14

Combined:
600/1000 Overall Winner (1)

The benefit of this change will be to reduce the entry fee to $60/day. I think this will better serve all of the parties involved.

Regards,
Sloughhouse Long Range Benchrest

We are roughly 3 weeks away from holding the 1st Freedom Benchrest West Coast Nationals. We've had a good response from a number of sponsors so our table should be full of great prizes.

Here are the details of the match. Make sure to get your registration in by April 8th and make hotel reservations soon. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

We are coming up on about a week until the first Freedom Benchrest West Coast Nationals are held at SacValley Shooting Center here in Northern CA. The weather forecast is looking great with temps in the mid 70's and mild winds (ie less than 10mph). Another beautiful CA spring.

Given that this is the first Freedom Benchrest Nationals event for the club, we are excited that a couple of the Freedom board members are making the trek out to CA to spend time with the competitors and to get to know us better. We can't say enough about the level of support that we are getting from all of the Freedom Benchrest organization. Really looking forward to meeting them in person.

We have a great turnout of sponsors, some with products, some with gift certificates and some with cash. The cash is being used in two ways. First, a couple nice products have been purchased. Items like the Garmin Xero C1 and a Bix'n Andy trigger are two examples. Secondly, there will be cash prizes for the winners of the 600 yard ($200), 1000 yard ($200) and Overall ($300).

Some of the sponsors that are supporting us this year are:
- Freedom Benchrest
- Vapor Trails
- PT&G
- Barlein Barrels
- Krieger Barrels
- Brux Barrels
- Ezell Tuners
- 21st Century Innovation
- PMA Tool
- March
- Whidden
- Tamagni Gunsmithing Service

There are a few more that should be showing up this week....so a great thanks to all of the sponsors.

Should be a great week and I know the club is looking forward to hosting the event and enjoying everyone's company.

Yesterday was the first day of the week long West Coast Nationals. It was a day to register and for practice/load development. You could not have asked for a nicer day with calm winds, lots of sun and temps in the low 80's.

Today, for the 1st day of competition, things changed quite a bit. There is a front moving along the coast of CA which brought some cloud cover and temps down in the low 70's....and of course, some stout breezes. We went from T-shirts to sweaters over night.

But with all that, the day went well and some very good shooting was demonstrated by a very strong contingent of competitors.

Thanks for adding the pictures, it helps a bunch.
Great looking range!

The 2nd Day of the 600 yard portion of the Freedom West Coast Nationals completed today. The conditions were much the same as yesterday with temps in the low 70's and a pretty stiff and shifting wind. There was a fair amount of swearing being heard up and down the line as great groups were ruined by an unseen change in the wind.

We had the great pleasure of having David Mathews (from the board of Freedom Benchrest) join us for the day. He made sure to talk to all of the competitors and allow them the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about Freedom. Everyone very much appreciated his attendance. Next time, he will need to bring a rifle and join the competition.

Jeff Locke did very well in the conditions to recover from a deficit coming out of Day 1 to take the overall win for both days. Great shooting Jeff....congrats. SacValley's own Greg Wilson gave Jeff a good run but came in 2nd overall.

Congratulations Jeff, once again coming down and kicking my butt on my home turf. I don’t know if I’m getting used to it or starting to resent it, but you couldn’t ask to compete against a better shooter or person than Jeff. A big shout out to Louie and the crew for putting on a great shoot and making sure things ran smoothly!
