FREEDOM BENCHREST

Getting everyone under one set of rules has been something Id hoped for since my first time on the IBS lr commitee. As you live and learn things change. Im not sure it’s possible, or really even matters. BR is about small groups a good scores. The best times I have had have been tuning sessions with my buddies. What I will do is shoot the displine thats local to me and have a good time. Personally dont care what letters sanction the match. It’s the guys you shoot with that make the match. Since Im heading back to north Fl. I will be shooting Freedom, when I get chance to shoot.
What you said is spot on!

I hope to catch ya on your way thru dinner is on me!!!

Jackie, I don’t know you personally, I was going to wait and talk with all our shooters here in the coming weeks, and make a decision. But today you personally helped me decide my course of action for myself .
You said it all in a few short posts, the very reasons to go ahead with it!

I try to stay in my lane , the long range lane, when it comes voting on agenda items or anything shooting related, that’s all I know,

How is starting a new organization hurting the entire sanctioning body, the only thing I can come up with is the funds generated?

Have a great day sir
And thanks for helping out here.

TomE
Tom, to answer your last question, I guess it depends on the way you look at the tradition and prestige of the Sanctioning Bodies.

As a active NBRSA Competitor, I look upon the Organization as one entity made up of multiple extreme accuracy Disciplines. In the end, we are all in it together as members of the Sanctioning Bodies.

Any fractioning of one part of the Sanctioning Body hurts the entire Body.

I consider myself not just a Benchrest Shooter, but one part of the Sanctioning Bodies that have strived through the years to make Benchrest the premier test of extreme accuracy and precision in the Competitive Arena.

Hey Jim

Haven't read every post or possibly missed it, how will the scoring program be handled? Are you preparing a new scoring program for the participating clubs?

Thanks Darin
Darin a new program is being designed .It will be available in the near future will work in excel much like the 600 yard IBS program with exception 1 program will work for both 600 and 1000 yards and figure end of the year honors for each.

The Freedom Series events for 2023 can be run on any current program with results being sent into Blake Wilson

Nice, thanks for the reply!

I shoot SR NBRSA, so I was trying not to have an opinion on this.
But, Jackie helped me too.
Sounds like a great move forward for you guys in the 1000yd game
I had thought of getting into this in the past. I have most of what I need to put a 1000yd LG together.
The lack of sighters during the match and the complicated scoring kept me from being interested enough to jump in
In my opinion which isnt worth much. The addition of this combined sighter/record period will be recognized in the smaller groups and better scores

I wish you all, the best of luck in your endeavor

Tim

I would personally LOVE to be able to shoot sighters during the record target time period in 1000yd. I don't see how a set-up like Williamsport could ever pull that off unless you used every other bench and had the sighter target next to the record and had some VERY attentive people in the pits........I can see where that could potentially be a real P.I.T.A. for both parties......

Regards
Rick

Alex,

When you get to FL look me up (I live in GA right at the FL/GA border). Happy to have you come up and shoot with us, although it is a couple hours drive from your new location.

I want to again say thanks to all the posts on here yesterday, you made my phone blow up then and today!
This lil wildfire is gaining momentum

Every single post on Facebook and call that I received has been nothing but postive from east to west

Thanks to all that reached out with your thoughts on the path taken, like I stated yesterday originally I didn’t plan to get involved here,I was going to wait and talk to the shooters, but for some reason they started calling, post away

Thanks again
TomE

well said brother

I have no love loss for the NBRSA. When I held my first 600 yd sanctioned match all I got from them was told what I couldn’t do instead of what could they do to help.
I decided to shoot Australian Fly Shoots. Many Australian shooters spent hours emailing and calling me on their dime to help me. I know these Freedom guys by name only but it sounds like they are the type to help get these matches/ranges going instead of criticizing. I like they aren’t telling range owners what to charge and what to pay out.
Photo is one of my target frames used at 500 meters for Fly Shoots. 12x12 plate directly under target for sighters. If I where starting over I would make plate 12x18w
Mirage is HEAVY at my place, bullet holes aren’t visible and at times hits on the plate are hard to see. Can’t really see a better way for sighters at 600. Before you say it, the design prevents any shrapnel from hitting paper targets

Mike, we miss those matches. Any chance of starting them up again?

Those look great, our plates at the valley hang directly under the target as well, we also started with 12x12, ran them for 9 years, went to 14x14 much better, if I did it again I’d do 16s

At 1000 we use 18x24 full size ipsc’s they are between the frames and about 10” behind the target line, after 10 years , you would think I’d have the 1000 exactly the way I want it, still not there, but it works pretty good.

The way our berm is laid out we are also able to keep clay pigeons within 4 to 8 feet of the targets, I know this option is not viable for a lot of places.

Thanks for sharing your pics, always helps to see other places,

TomE

One Sanctioning Body to rule them all, One Sanctioning Body to find them, One Sanctioning Body to bring them all, and in the distance bind them.......

I have to miss the first Deep Creek Match next week and I am pissed about it. So for me, I just want to have a place close by to shoot 1000 yd BR. If I ever get caught up with life I will travel a bit as well. I do not care what sanctioning body runs the matches. Like @Alex Wheeler said, it's the people we shoot with that matter the most.

With whatever is done here, I recommend leaving the drama out and please don't screw anything up.
