Five Things You Do Not Know About Sniper Rifles

... whoops, I don't know how far, but you have to figure it out and try to get the wind right, without flags or sighters, hit it with the first (and only) shot...

I think you would fail miserably, and come home in a body bag.

Can't say as I can agree with the info from the military guys on precision shooting as they don't even load there own ammo or tune the load to the gun there shooting, But they do have an abundance of ammo so sooner or later they will hit it.
Don't tell this to the members of the USAMU (United States Army Marksmanship Unit). You will find them at a lot of National and International Shooting Competitions.

Also, I forwarded your response to my son who is going to post it on his Special Forces bulletin board. He also wondered how good you would be with bullets and RPG's flying all around you while you were shooting.

Do you think that you represent the only precision shooters in the world.

If you were dropped in a strange place, with no sighters, no bench with seat, with no roof over you, no front tripod, no rear heavy sand bag, and no field of 10,000 spinning yellow wind flags, and given a target at...

Cat, great response. I also forwarded this to my Special Forces son.

I have much respect for military, But bring your green Remy to the 1k line and shoot your ammo loaded by someone else and win consistently. Sniperhide.com is more for the steel shooters..

Boy, ... don't get here for a couple of months and my, my how the fur can fly. One thing i can say is that i'm very proud of our snipers doing what they do under the conditions they must do it in, period. I simply wish we would stand up and make OUR govenment take better care of them when they come home.

As for people coming here because of any movie or the "hide" or sniper central or any of the other "sniper" places, i don't care. The fact that they came here means they want to learn and as others have stated, we should help them. The more Americans that can shoot past 100yds the better.

Two different disciplines, two different groups of people, this site tends to be older people with serious OCD, the hide is younger more active types that are usually fresh out of the mil or LEO's that want to maintain or improve their tactical skills and accuracy. Typical mil snipers dont have the best equipment to work with, bench shooters would not fare well stalking with their 60 inch long fire sticks, I am a bit bewildered by the animosity against the hide here, I dont remember reading any animosity on that site against this one, usual reference to this site for answers and as a resource.

For what it's worth, I know a guy who spent 19yrs in our country's Army. Did three tours in Iraq as a sniper before his career was ended by an LED. Spent almost three years in hospital and rehab. This retired SFC is a great guy, a great husband, a wonderful father, and someone whom I have great respect for. He gave a lot for our freedom. He's my son-in-law!!

Who are you calling OCD?? I'd teach you a thing or two you young whipper snapper if I was not so busy polishing my primer pockets between shots of geritol. I am/was a member there and IMO there are not as many "younger more active types that are usually fresh out of the mil or LEO's" on the hide as you might think, and more mall ninjas or as we used to call them back in the civil war- ice cream commandos. And for me it's not animosity to a different discipline or skill set as it is to a over all tone, attitude and level of respect.

Thanks

I think that everyone has respect for actual snipers. It is the pseudo's that people have an issue with. Two weeks ago when I was at the range another shooter and I were looking at our 600 yard(s) targets. He was not on paper. I asked him what he was shooting. He said he was shooting a 300WM. I said "that is a lot of gun". He said that he had no choice in caliber because he was a military sniper. I asked him what kind of scope he had and he said Barska.

Was he Chinese? he could have meant PLA.
