I wonder why those military teams hand loaded match ammo for their match grade service rifles and bolt guns winning matches and setting records civvies shooting their stuff couldn't equal? Can't say as I can agree with the info from the military guys on precision shooting as they don't even load there own ammo or tune the load to the gun there shooting, But they do have an abundance of ammo so sooner or later they will hit it.
Arsenal match ammo never cut their mustard unless they replaced an arsenal lot of M118 with 3 or 4 different lots of so-so 173's with tack driving Sierra's from a single lot. That ammo was called Mexican Match as the 1968 US Olympic team used it in the 300 meter free rifle matches in Mexico that year. It shot about 2/3 MOA at 600 whereas M118 shot about 2 MOA if a good lot.
Their rifles were good enough to shoot the same lot of hand loads in all of them winning and record setting.
Note that Sierra Bullets developed their first 30 caliber hollow point match bullet for the US Army International Rifle Team in 1958 to handload for their free rifles. Then they sold it to civilians as the 168-grain International.
