findin a load for a .243 win.that will give me 1600 fps,any one with a recepy? got 55 grainers

Just started reloadin .243 very happy with it....heavy barrel savage,tho stuck with 200 55 grain pills I think I need to pushedem@1600 fps.any one tried 55 's?they were on sale that's how I gottem,I usually shoot 85 trainers any replies will b really appreciated,thank u.

+1 on trailboss. I haven't shot the 87 but I have a couple good loads at 1040 fps that are scary accurate at 100 and quiet with a can.

The reason for low velocity is so I can make barrel last forever and to shoot prairie dogs.

Thank you zero333....i also like my 357 mag at 1040 fps. My 30-30 @1400.fps Then I'm a happy camper,I do lotta target shooting,locally,in southern calif.for hunting I will be aware to use full loads.

That's like having a hot rod and never getting on the gas!!! I would put the powder to it and have fun with a fast flat shooting combo!

You might look into using Alliant 2400 powder as it is suitable for reduced rifle cartridge loading and it is not position sensitive within the case.

Wonder what i can do bout those troublesome .22 accelerator sabots,any one have a recepy to load them? Had em sittin for three years! I'd hate to pull em apart and save them little pills,too hard to take plastic insert from that 55 grain pill,rather shoot them outta my 30-30, jst for fun,

I tell u people... I've inserted them little .22 sabot accelerators by hard hand pressure and them suckers don't come out after zising my 30-30shells,these were dummy's tho, jst to see what they looked like... monkey 'd around for a bit....and they looked real fancy to me....

I have hoid trail boss is a real good powder for reduced loads on most rifle calibers.

Will be sure to buy trailboss from now on,1040 fps seems mild low speed,same speed as a hyper .22 lr.

I am currently using 15gr of Trail Boss behind a 55gr Nosler Varmageddon in my son'a Tikka T3X .243Win 20" (he's 8 and only 45lb). I get about 2300fps and nearly zero recoil. It's enough snot to pop woodchucks for several hundred yards, and I've rung steel at 400yd with it.

I had several lower-velocity loads, including subsonic ones, but accuracy was much better with a full case of TrailBoss. With only 15gr, barrel life should be nearly infinite.

It's silly when you could run a 22 Hornet, but hey, if you have a .243 around, why not?

Got 3lbs of 2400 very easy powder to find everywhere,used it before for my 357 lever gun.

I would be VERY careful with loads way below the normal for a given cartridge!
In some conditions, a short load can explode rather than simply burn fast and cause rifle, and shooter, damage.

Best to do some research on this subject. Meanwhile, use H1000 as it is way easier on the 243 WIN barrel than other standard powders.

I'm not trying to be rude at all, this is just boggling my mind. If you want a .243 to shoot like a .22 why don't you just shoot a 22? Get a nice scope with target turrets and have some fun with it. that should add a bit of a challenge and provide some very good practice on wind reading. Once you get past your limits and ability of the .22, dig out the .243 and light em up.

I feel like stomp is asking the wrong question. If he wanted to shoot a 22 he would get one. He wants to shoot a 55 grain 6mm at 1600 fps. The only justification he needs is a desire to do it. It will be a challenge and if he is up to finding an accurate load to do it, why not?

I don't have to try 1000 yard shooting to allow others to do it and I would expect they don't give a care about my shooting sub moa shots from my hunting rifles. We don't need to like the same things but we should encourage others to do what they want as long as it is safe. I've downloaded my ammo at times and I may have fired a load that was hot in the past too. A fella (or gal) should be allowed to load what he wants to as long as no one is in danger because of it.
