Favorite war movies. What's yours?

I like learning about World War I, and especially how it led up to World War II and the actual footage narrated by Mark Felton amongst others. I have seen most of the other war movies produced by Hollywood as mentioned in other posts and most of them are good. But I have gravitated more towards learning actual facts about these two campaigns. Truly a mind-boggling time to have actually participated in and lived through to tell others about…. least we forget.
I mentioned earlier, the Devil's Brigade. First Special Services Force. The movie was based (loosely) on them. Search youtube for the the documentary series.

A lot of good ones on these lists but one of the first that came to my mind was The Big Red One. Surprised I had to make it three pages deep to see it.

To Hell and Back, The Audie Murphy story is a good one too.

The Lighthorsemen 1987
About a unit of Australian Lighthorse in the north African desert in WW1.
Speaking of the Australians....."Danger Close" Battle of Long Tan. True
story. Golipoli would be another.

Some Japanese / Burma war drama with Nick Nolte "Farewell to the King"
Good beer and popcorn flick. loosely based on a true story.

The more you read about WW1 the more you will see how it led us to where we are today.
It not only gave us Vietnam on a silver platter
but made WW11 inevitable.
Have you seen the mini series Apocalypse WWI?

I don't think General Pershing gets enough credit for keeping us out of their senseless trench meat grinders, that the allies were begging him to get our boys involved in.

Yes I certainly have. ‘Meat grinder’
Is the correct word choice.
You are also correct about ‘’BlackJack’ Pershing. Pershing refused to let any American soldiers be under foreign military leaders.
Interesting is how American soldiers were treated when they returned home. Eventually camping in home made shelters outside the White House the Great General Douglas MacArthur, having orders to evict them, he took it upon himself to burn all their shelters. He is also 100% responsible for the disastrous December 8, 1941 destruction of the Philippine attack by the Japanese. ‘Medal of Honor’ recipient for ‘what’ courageous action? Deserting his men and letting them endure the Bataan death march?
