6Bra. I like the 6mmBR variants with zero freebores, 6br, 6bra, 6dasher, ext.
Alex is dead nuts right on, those 6mm really create some air time, and you can see the flying rugs with a muzzle break!
6BR zero freebore-27" 12T barrel-55's-58g at 3850 fps with AA2230, Rem 7 1/2
6 Dasher 12T-zero freebore-27" barrel-55's-58g at 4150
6 BRX-zero freebore 12T, same as Dasher
Dasher and BRX with 70g Blitz kings with H335 are simply unbelievable acrobatics.
H335 and AA2230 are very easy on barrels!
If you don't see the dogs flying, where is the fun? This equates to 19-28lb rifles, and/or muzzle breaks.
My 223 and AI are 19 lb rigs, with muzzle breaks. My 243 AI is 28lbs with a muzzle break. I see my exact impact on the dog, know how to hold for exact bullet placement on the next party animal. If they are on the edge of the hole, put some English on him and plug the hole! Skull creases = swimming dogs and more dogs join the fun! Shoot one's tail off at 200, you are really going to see a circus act with lots of dogs joining in!
If you aim for a shoulder, you want to see if you hit two inches away from the shoulder, if you aim for the eye, you want to see if you hit them on the back of the head or nose, make turret corrections. Correct shot placement = better launch time and more humane kills.
Ear plugs with electronic ear muffs allow me to hear normal conversation at low voice.
The way around muzzle breaks is the 17's and Vartarg. I do not like watching them just fall over, too many crawlers...inhumane.
When they look like they have been shot out of a circus Canon, that is a humane kill with NO sufferings!
More of a chuck rig, 6mm Rem AI, 26", 14T, zero freebore, 70g Nosler ballistic tips at 4100-4150 with Win 760 or AA2700(one of the coolest powders you can shoot).
I took a lot of people shooting dogs over the years. We sat up in a row, Close to each other. I was able to call my own shots, and almost every shot within 300 yards was a PLOP sound with dogs going airborn. My hunting partners did not have nearly the High % hits as I did. I rarely ever said a word, other than, "how you do'en?"
One thing for certain, they knew for a fact that if they could not see their bullet impact, they had no idea how much to hold over on windage and elevation. On the next trip, every rifle other than 17's had muzzle brakes, or they were so hard headed about hating brakes that they did not want to go back...".wasting too much ammo just burning up barrels".
