Dusty, saw this info in the "Secret Creedmoor Club" thread, but it was worthy of its own thread, so thanks. Of course, it is becoming another 6.5 CM bashing session, and I'm not sure what's up with that. Do people actually believe that the CM is inferior, or is it just easy to pick on because marketing claims are absurd? I fell for the hype and got a CM because it fit all of my requirements. Manageable recoil for my bad joints, accuracy, legal for whitetail in WA State, and (most importantly) lots of ammo choices. Unfortunately, I did not discover this forum until I had already made my choice. Overzealous marketing exists in any industry where a corporation stands to make a big profit on hype. Does the CM live up to Hornady's claims? I won't have an answer until the rifle gets back from the factory over a warranty claim.
Not sure if I can ever trust a magazine, youtube video, or any website review again. On the subject of recoil, I shot my CM with 140gr cartridges, and then shot my friend's .308 with 147gr. Honestly, there was not much difference (maybe 15% more recoil on the .308). Then he loaded some 185gr, and it was a whole different experience. I'm a rookie, but it doesn't take a genius to see that bullet weights need to be matched, or measuring differences in recoil is completely irrelevant. If these are the kind of gimmicks that manufacturers are using, who can you trust anymore?
