Fake news in gun mags now?

Dusty, saw this info in the "Secret Creedmoor Club" thread, but it was worthy of its own thread, so thanks. Of course, it is becoming another 6.5 CM bashing session, and I'm not sure what's up with that. Do people actually believe that the CM is inferior, or is it just easy to pick on because marketing claims are absurd? I fell for the hype and got a CM because it fit all of my requirements. Manageable recoil for my bad joints, accuracy, legal for whitetail in WA State, and (most importantly) lots of ammo choices. Unfortunately, I did not discover this forum until I had already made my choice. Overzealous marketing exists in any industry where a corporation stands to make a big profit on hype. Does the CM live up to Hornady's claims? I won't have an answer until the rifle gets back from the factory over a warranty claim.

Not sure if I can ever trust a magazine, youtube video, or any website review again. On the subject of recoil, I shot my CM with 140gr cartridges, and then shot my friend's .308 with 147gr. Honestly, there was not much difference (maybe 15% more recoil on the .308). Then he loaded some 185gr, and it was a whole different experience. I'm a rookie, but it doesn't take a genius to see that bullet weights need to be matched, or measuring differences in recoil is completely irrelevant. If these are the kind of gimmicks that manufacturers are using, who can you trust anymore?

Hey clunker,
Try Norma 130 gr OTM in you 6five. They didnt use it in thier test report.
It would have made the other test ammo look REALLY bad.
Norma consistently shot .3 , and it's good brass for reloading. 26 bucks @ sportsmans warehouse .

Funny that you mention that ammo. It was one of the three factory cartridges I tried, and I got it at Sportsman's Warehouse mainly because of the price and the fact that it was good brass (unless the whole brass thing is a bunch of hype too). It was more accurate than Hornady ELD Match (more hype), but I didn't realize that the rifle had a problem at that time. One of the hollow points wasn't hollow, and my shots started drifting badly after I fired that round. I asked Norma if there were any known issues with that specific ammo, and they sent me a new box, no questions asked. If Norma still shoots well after rifle repairs, it will be my go-to practice ammo until I start reloading. Can't beat a company that stands behind their products.

CM bashing? Surely you jest! There are plenty of CM fanboys here. It's all tongue in cheek with no malice aforethought.
Why, I just recommended that cartridge to a couple of shooters. It'll do mostly anything a half dozen other cartridges will do, just with more notoriety. I'm sure with the right shot placement, you'll get your whitetails.:D

So will my 22lr says so right on the box.

There is a famous case in British legal history from the 1950s or 60s relating to the criminal responsibility of an accidental fatal shooting with a 22LR at a distance of over a mile. I wish I could find a link to it for detailed information.

The case was of a low hill in the English countryside on a fine summer's day. On one side of the crest was a shooter who took an uphill shot at a bird sitting in a tree - and missed. On the other side of the hill there was a family picnicking and the husband was lying on his back sunbathing.

The bullet passed over the hilltop, and by terrible bad luck, not only struck the man on the other side of the hill at well over a mile distance, but the angles were such that it passed through an eye socket and entered the brain killing him. The shooter was charged with and convicted of manslaughter despite his defence that nobody could have anticipated this outcome and he believed the hilltop provided a safe backstop. Expert evidence calculated the bullet's terminal energy was in single figures ft/lb.

So ... any half decent 6.5 should kill a deer (well maybe a housefly) at 10 miles. :)
