F-Class @ Camp Perry - 2015

Whittington Center in Raton includes the High Power Range. The facilities in Raton/Trinidad are just Ok. It is in the middle of nowhere.

Come on Steve, It's only 18 miles to Cold Beer, New Mexico (the cleaner Mexico I might add) and about 27 to Capulin, what more could you ask for?

All right, Dean, I may have been a little harsh. After all, there is a Walmart in Trinidad. However, some big city folks regard sighting a Walmart as evidence they've reached the frontier. ;)

You are very correct Larry. White Deer has a population of 1000 when the local drunks aren't in jail in Panhandle. Raton is bigger than you think. If you've never seen the view from Goat Hill, where the RATON sign is, it's worth the trip up there about dark to watch the lights come on. Yeah I know, it doesn't take much to entertain a small town kid.

Now that I've had a chance to think about this for a day or so I have a question.

Did the NRA or whoever give a reason for dropping all F class from Perry? The F class Mid Range National Championship was well attended, the regional was less so in large part because it was directly after the Mid range and was in the middle of the week so it made for a long week off to shoot it all. (that and the regional didn't have an agg, it was just individual 4 matches)

(now the guys with the "Death before F class" t shirts won't have anyone to taunt 8)

It is really unfortunate that the organization that sanctions us all would appear to be trying to maintain the "friction" for lack of a better word. If it really is as it appears from that statement then it is truly disappointing.

Straight from the horses mouth on the National Match forum:

"On Friday I arranged for Mid Range F-Class to go to Phoenix and be held in conjunction with the LR Championship. That means the $20K in awards provided for Mid Range will now go to the sling shooters. If there was ever a time to shoot MR, 2015 will be it. Based on 2014 attendance, the $20K will be divided up among 49 competitors.

There will be NO F-Class competition at Camp Perry in 2015 or 2016."

Chris, who is this quoting?

Doing it that way you are up to 7 days of shooting without any practice days + you have to figure in travel time. My gut tells me we may be trying to please everyone at the possible detriment of most.

Maybe I'm not following you Larry. How would this be the detriment of most? I understand that if a person wanted to shoot both it would be a loooooooooong week but why does that mater you cannot shoot both now. It would also give some of the retired guys with plenty of time the opportunity to shoot both. It would also give guys the opportunity to help run the Nationals without having to sit out.

Dennis L. Willing made that enlightening post.

To eliminate all F-Class shooting because the Midrange National isn't going to be at Camp Perry just seems vindictive. I was planning to shoot Long Range next year.

I suspected as much. Thanks for the confirmation.

Here is another question to all of you guys that say you want to grow the sport. Why dont we have the F-Nationals during summer break so that Jr participation could be higher?

After reading all the comments I would like to thank everyone who made them on the future of the FC National Championships. Having read the comments that they were hijacked with the Mid-Range Championship being taken out of Camp Perry, I did not know of those plans until I sat down at the NRA High Power Committee meeting last Saturday. Your attendance at the Phoenix meeting had a tremendous impact on the High Power Committee members which had a lot to do with the decisions made by the Committee.

I believe the reason the Mid-Range and Long Range Regional were taken out of Camp Perry was because of the World Championships being there and attendance of F Class was ok but not attended by a large number of competitors. They also needed space in which to run the World Championships (they only have so many days that they can use the Camp Perry facility).

I think moving around the country is wonderful, as most of the people at the meeting said. I am very happy with splitting the F Open and FTR and the Mid-Range which would allow smaller ranges to be used. I think we have to all see how this is going to shake out and what the exact format would be (there are no plans to change the course of fire).

With the FOpen and FTR being split for you folks wanting to come back to Lodi I will do everything I can do to make this happen and provide you with a great shooting experience. It is still in the talking stages right now.

Somewhere on this site I read the top 10 reasons I enjoy shooting F/Class..........I think " I enjoy being treated like a second class citizen" just moved to number 1.

Interesting developments and certainly a telling quote. Why am I not terribly surprised?

At any rate, I am not in favor of having separate F-Open and F-TR matches, however, if having them consecutively is the way forward, I would like to request the F-Open portion be held first. This way I could shoot my F-TR rifle in F-Open and get some time at the range before the real matches begin.

Denys, I think the general idea is for each to be hosted as separate events at different locations. This would give a smaller club an opportunity to hold a national match. The 2 midrange events could travel independently all over the country.

A few people deleted posts and I missed reading a few, my apologies.

The idea was for the the same range to host both Ftr and Open back to back. We could flip over the order or maybe alternate year to year

Easy solution for having people shoot both and capacity is if you want to register for both, then one is primary, the second is based on space available after a certain date.

My $.02 worth on the Mid-Range Nationals. Always have them at a separate facility as the LR and preferably in a different part of the country. That would give people that do not have the ability or want to travel to be able to stay closer to home that year and still shoot in a "Nationals"
