Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

Example. Tesla wall charger. Cost $400 plus installation. (Don't know about you but if I'm buying a new vehicle I'm sure I will have the $400 for the garage charging unit.) 240V circuit. (No dryer or oven?) Charge up to 44 miles per hour charging depending on vehicle model. That's 280 miles of charge while you're sleeping. Add in a bit more for the time it takes to make a coffee and brush your teeth in the morning. And that's today's tech.

Apartments and condos are fitting chargers to attract tenants/buyers. (Along with office buildings, mall parking lots etc etc.)

Going to a gas station is such a waste of time... :) (It's not hard to envisage a time, in the not so distant future, when a "gas" station will be a bank of superchargers with a couple of gasoline pumps out back for the oldies.)

I see the Ford F150 Lightning is shipping now... And the Rivian R1T is very cool also - such acceleration!
Good luck towing with those or driving out West.

"Despite semiconductor shortages, rising transaction prices and falling light-vehicle sales overall, battery-electric vehicle volumes are surging across the U.S., driven by luxury leader Tesla and new models from Hyundai Motor Group's mainstream brands.

EV registrations rose 60 percent in the first quarter to 158,689 and took a record 4.6 percent share of the light-vehicle total, according to financial data firm Experian. While total vehicle registrations fell 18 percent in the January-March period to 3.4 million on inventory constraints, a growing stable of electric models attracted early adopters in record numbers."

If you own an EV and charge it at home, No Problems. Don't need no stinken cell phone to charge my battery. Got a couple in our Valley. Back and forth to work, charge it up at home at night.
Charging station hacked? What? Showing dirty pictures? :D

Owning an EV? Only difference would be "Pay At The Pump" or pay when the electricity bill comes.
Thinking one of the EV owners in our Valley is the same guy that owns a 32 Sedan Street Rod. WE need to get together for coffee. :D

When will you consider an EV? When gas reaches $5, $7 or $10 per gallon? How about when you cannot buy gas at any price?

Gas is already pushing $6.50 here so no problems.
"National average" is $4.35/$4.40 + ?
Guess they've never been to California.
Seen a few pumps where the folks just before me paid $90.00 to $100.00.
AND, there isn't S**T you can do about it. Must be Trumps fault or maybe Putin?
The price of fuel has gone up because THEY CAN raise it!!

I remember taking a road trip a few years back. Coming West back across Nevada, figured I had half a tank so I hit a station on the main highway and topped the tank off.
No worries, make it all the way home with no issues.
Wife asked "do you know how much you paid for gas"? NOPE!! $5.00 a gallon.
Makes no difference to me, tank is full and I'am headed for home.
The folks gassing up were a "captive audience". I was getting 35 MPG so I was on a roll.
If you want to drive, you pay the price and be on your way. Bitch, bitch, bitch doesn't accomplish anything, like you're the ONLY ONE paying the price??

Interesting… aren’t automotive manufactures required to support their fleets for at least 10 years?
That used to be the case. I work for a GM dealer. The HVAC controller went out on my wifes 2013 yukon last year. Its already discontinued. Was only 7 years old.

Detroit Diesel has said that they plan to support the 71 and 92 series two stroke engines, which haven't been put an on road vehicle for close to 30 years, until the year 2040.

A few weeks ago my dealership got in its first Hummer EV. During the pre delivery inspection the battery has to be charged. It was at 3% when the guy working on it got it. At this time we only have a level 2 charger. Can not get the level 3 yet due to shortage we are told. He plugged it in at 3pm. Stayed plugged in all night. When i got there at 6:30am the next morning it wwas only at 75% charge. Hope people have time. Besides appartment issues i wounder with how many people can not part both their vehicles in the garage due to they are so freakin small. If one of their vehicles are parked in driveway how many punk kids would go arround and unplug them. Imagine waking up next day and finding out no range to get to work.

New government report out, expect more blackouts as NEW electric production has been primarily wind turbine and the wind doesn't blow all the time and the massive batteries needed for storage haven't been improved enough for reliable supply. Also the sun doesn't shine 24 hrs a day so solar won't charge any batteries at night.

Technology and logistics just aren't there yet. EV's are more expensive to buy. More difficult to charge. our electrical grid's aren't able to keep up well with summer and winter demands excluding EV's. Wind and Solar remain a pipe dream. They demand too much acreage for what little energy they produce. They still must use batteries to store energy and conversion and transport is too expensive. The Wind turbines each use 150 gallons of oil for coolant and they are a nightmare to set up and take down plus they are far more destructive to our environment to dispose of. China is a major producer of Wind and Solar equipment so there's that aspect.
If you like your EV then good on you. Perhaps in the future we will discover a truly viable answer to energy needs but at present fossil fuel is the only viable answer in my mind. For fuel savings in commuter cars the little roller skate cars like the Fiat, Smart and others will get you as good or better fuel savings but you won't be quite as stylish.

Opinions vary.

Come this summer once the national average of 87 octane gets to $6.00 a gallon the government is going to force people into considering or reconsidering this electric car crap....yes, being FORCED, that was their plan from the start. They have crippled the country, fast, quick, and in a hurry.

This administration has been anti USA from the start. Hold on, they're just getting started.

Without Penske Detroit Diesel has not produced an engine that meets emission standards in many years. What do they have left but to sell parts to obsolete engines. I can get every thing i need to do anything to my 3-71 pump motor with out any involvement with Detroit Diesel. Another corperation that was thriving under decent leadership now dying on the vine with no leadership. The 60 series engines were among the best on the market when Penske was running things and building products.

IMO, what matters more is diesel prices. Trucks keep this country going. It impacts the prices on the store shelves and we're already dealing with shortages.
