Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

Exactly right! They have to get that tax money from somewhere. In Montana I think we pay about .47 cents on the gallon. If they are no longer getting the tax from fossil fuels, they will get it from whatever other source people are using for transportation

I saw on a news feed somewhere the BIG guy recons you guys will save $80 a month when you drive electric vs fuel. Bargain
what about the $600/ month payment to save $80 in fuel

Maybe 3-4 days to 75 or 80 % but 1 to 2 gallons is better than a Cat's Paw special. ;)
And in a pinch, you could pick "that car" up, put it on your shoulder and carry it home. :)

Just watched "again" a program called Vintage Voltage. Made in the U.K. where they electrified an early 308 Ferrari. From the factory, maybe 200 HP ? Using a Tesla motor and gear box swap, about 400 HP and zero to 60 in about 3 seconds. :D About a 150 mile range. And it would be a toy so mileage would fit the program. ;)
So, if a Tesla will go 250 to 300 miles on a charge, thinking you could do a swap on just about "anything" and get close to the same results?
Thinking 32 Ford 3 Window coupe . Lots of room under the hood for batteries and the weight in front would match the engine weight so it would still handle good? Go light weight glass body and it should go like STINK!! You would need a sound recording of EXHAUST PIPES and spinning tires to make it real.

Or, go with a gutted Prius Hybrid. (no charging needed) I figure somebody has already done it??
Mikey, did I ask you how I could get to Lancaster, Kalifornia in any EV from 45 miles east of Dallas? As far as I can tell I could maybe make it to Las Cruces, NM. I guess I could fly the rest of the way or rent a vehicle large enough to pull my EV for the rest of my destination.

There is NEVI funding to build out charging stations along interstate corridors (level 3 chargers - roughly charge in approximate time to fill tank...). There is also money from the VW settlement. Wyoming is addressing this issue with regards to our tourist industry. The following article provides some useful information.

There is an Ap that will tell you where all the charging stations are, IF you own a Smart Phone.?? Not smart enough SO I don't own one. I just look for a Gas Station. ;)

If your use “fits” one, then they seem to be nice to own. My son owned a Toyota Prius hybrid. Him and his wife live about 25 miles from work. They can plug them in at their offices and have a second vehicle for driving distances. They had it for 5 or so years and never had a problem with it. Maybe they were in the group of “lucky ones”…….. I always said I’d never own one, but after seeing and ride in it for 5 years, I started thinking about getting one...
Very much my experience. I've owned performance Euros for ages as well as diesel pickups and always swore I'd only get an EV if I was dragged to it kicking and screaming. My view has changed somewhat from one of my sons getting a Tesla. I have driven it and am pretty impressed. It isn't much slower off the line than my 600hp AMG and would embarrass 95% of "performance" vehicles round town. He bought it largely as a commuter vehicle but has just done a ~ 500mile trip with his wife and son. Used a paid fast charger once but by minimal planning was able to use free chargers most of the time. Total cost was about NZ$55, roughly $40US. God only knows what it would have cost him to take his other toy- a '99 Expedition. Would have added a zero to that cost.

I have checked a couple suggested sites on the inner neck. That was the reason I posted. From Las Cruces west there is no charging stations within 350 miles or more.
Royse City, Tx is a few miles from me and has a population of about 15,000. There is at last count over 150 gas pumps and they are mostly full up. Most gas powered cars can go 300-450 miles on a fillup. What about the EVs at 200-250 mile range? How many fast charge stations will they need?

One of my sons has had 2 hybrid Toyota Highlander, actually they are both still in the family. Said they are great vehicles but will never pay the difference in gas mileage to pay the extra that they cost.

Can you imagine an electric buccee’s with 100 chargers full?

City of Los Angeles did a trial run of electric buses and none of the were able to finish the test period due to various failures....they couldn't even make it up some of the hills and rolled backwards.... so of course they went ahead and ordered millions of dollars of them to replace the entire fleet of natural gas buses. Turns out one of the former board of supervisors is involved with the chineese company BYD that is building them.

"The first five buses BYD sent to Los Angeles Metro were pulled off the road after less than five months of service. Internal emails and other agency records show that agency staff called them “unsuitable,” poorly made and unreliable for more than 100 miles. Despite strong concerns from its own staff about the quality and reliability of the company’s vehicles, the transit agency awarded BYD tens of millions of dollars more in public contracts."

Interesting to say the least......Not often we hear about the failures

I bought into byd (byddy) when i heard about this. Although i ended up making money it fell flat on its face. I can only imagine there were a bunch of politicians got in way before me and they did well
