AR-Comp is the first Alliant powder i really like. never did cotton to RL 15 or RL 7. 68 to 80 gr bullets, especially the 80s really love it. very, very close to H4895 in burn rate from my testing, but more consistent precision in my 6BRs.
I wonder what I’ll learn tomorrow?I think it does because in Quickload there is a C* besides the powder name, indicating it contains at least a little bit of copper reducing additive.
And NO... Unlike a regular reloading manual, the C* in Quickload doesn't mean "Compressed".
I tried pointing this out as you said, it is essentially interchangeable for burn rate and velocity for H4895 (which is very close to 8208 also), but it has a killer decoppering agent and the lots are way more consistent. Not to mention being the least temp sensitive powder on the market.
The more I test it in all my calibers I find it pretty much replaces a lot of powders. I only shoot AR Comp, R16, and R23 these days, except for LT32.
Hmmm???
H4895 is slower than I thought, though . . . it's understood that some lots of it can be faster.
See attached.
I have tested it, others have tested it. They are almost identical. There is a thread called "red headed step child" in the 6br forum. One guy tested in the Dasher and they were grain for grain the same velocity.
Sounds logical to me. But . . .
Is does the velocity always have a direct correlation to grain weight of various powders?
My thinking is that one could have a different burn rate, yet have the same velocity as one powder may be completely consumed and the other only 95% consumed because of that difference. Is that possible?
I just took the leap of faith and bought a 8# jug. By the way, Midsouth has 1# and 8# jugs in stock....
Primarily 223 Rem w/80 and 85.5 bullets in a bolt gun. Also, 308 in a bolt gun and 224 Valkyrie in AR.

You'll be happy. (It's what is used in federal gold medal match 308 (168 and 175g)
IMR4064 yesYou'll be happy. (It's what is used in federal gold medal match 308 (168 and 175g)
No it’s not , do you have evidence of this ? Last I heard Federal uses IMR-4064 in there 308 Fed GMM . I use both powders and have pulled 168gr FGMM rounds to weigh the charge and inspect the powder . It looks and has characteristics much more like 4064 then a AR-comp .
Where did you hear they use AR-comp ?
Here is a photo I took 5 years ago comparing pulled GMM on left and IMR 4064 on right

Here are the photos I just took a moment ago after pulling a 168gr GMM round . This round was from a different/newer lot of factory ammo then the 2015 ammo .

I have to say the newest GMM does not seem to be the same powder as it was in 2015 , however the AR-comp appears to be on average a shorter cut as well but is IMHO a closer match now then 4064 because neither AR comp or the new GMM have any of the long sticks 4064 tends to have in it . Although my IMR-4064 is also over 5 years old , maybe as much as 8yrs old .
I'm now A LOT less sure of my self then I was .
Maybe ill give em another try. I bet ar comp in there will work lots betterHere is a photo I took 5 years ago comparing pulled GMM on left and IMR 4064 on right
