Do you have to buff any on the epoxy ?View attachment 1500843View attachment 1500844Second coat of epoxy finished, after 2 days in the rotisserie. I’ll do a little sanding where the epoxy flowed into the inletting then put the gun together.
The first coat had a few air bubbles and a couple missed spots around the bolt notch. I did a lite sand with 320 and put on the second coat. I’m still working on this technique. The first one I did, I mopped on a heavy coat of epoxy with the motor set at a higher speed. It worked well and I got a thick, even coat but I had some air bubbles trapped deep. On this one, with a thin first coat, the bubbles are easy to sand out. The second coat is almost perfect, with the high gloss, smooth surface. I found one small hair on the finish that got thru the tent. It’s so minor, I’m not going to worry about it. It is supposed to be a tough truck gun, after all.Do you have to buff any on the epoxy ?
We all have to push the limits and raise the bar on ourselves, it's a ever evolving process striving to be the best we can be.I REALLY appreciate viewing the work of others. It inspires me to push my own limits and try new things on my projects.
It's very humbling to look at the work in this thread. At the same time, it causes me to challenge myself.
I appreciate it very much. Can't emphasize that enough.
That’s a great life philosophy that should be followed in all endeavors! We all have to push the limits and raise the bar on ourselves, it's a ever evolving process striving to be the best we can be.
Hell I've been painting 35 years, I learn new stuff almost daily.
That looks really nice ! Was that mesquite ? When you set the turquoise in it did you use regular epoxy ? You did good!View attachment 1501320View attachment 1501321View attachment 1501322View attachment 1501323Here it is, out of the blocks. Pretty glossy.
Yes. Mesquite.I mixed up some thickened “peanut butter” consistency epoxy and pushed it into the crack to support the stones I placed. When that hardened, I made up some mayonnaise with turquoise dust and filled around the stones, thereby sealing the crack on that side. I flipped it over after it hardened and poured epoxy into the crack until it was 1/4” below the surface. I placed more stones in the crack and filled around them with turquoise dust thickened epoxy. Flip back a few pages for picks of the process. That looks really nice ! Was that mesquite ? When you set the turquoise in it did you use regular epoxy ? You did good!
