Do it yourself Stock making thread

Hey Gabe: What did you use to polish that? I might want to take mine to super shiney in the future. Other guys might also want to know.

I started with 400 wet sanding
600-800-1000-1500-2000-3000 ( all wet sanding)- then mother’s aluminum polish… all by hand rubbing….
Final coat of Meguires wax

I’ve bare done wood the same way… just leave the water off till 1000-mark…

Wish I had a buffer….

I did the same thing but used a thumb hole stock and also a Stockey's rem aluminum bedding block. The hardest part was hogging out the wood for the block using a drill press and router bits. I am going to buy a plunge router for the next one!

Get yourself a palm buffer. I have a "Wen" I only paid $20 bucks for.
I just used it to shine up my ATV wheels. Harbor Freight has all kinds
of cheap pads.

Josh motivated me to build a stock over the winter. I used a router to make the barrel channel and to remove small amounts of wood for the action. Next time, I'll heed his advice and make a jig. I purchased 3 pieces of myrtle wood off the internet and glued them together.

Excellent glue up! People don't realize how hard that can be with out the proper milling tools. Especially at longer lengths. Even hard with milling tools sometimes. Great work!

After inletting the recoil lug, I used a razor knife and traced around the action then started inletting the action using hand tools and the 1/4" router bit.

After inletting the action I glued on the wings then started shaping the stock.
