Bit of a Rant

If someone lists a price and I want it, I pay the price. They usually have OR Best offer.
I don't want to or have time to dicker.
I don't NEED to sell anything. Pay the price or go away. If you want it bad enough, you'll pay my price. If I know you well enough, I may even make you a deal you can't refuse. ;)
Exactly.

I just bought (another) old FN commercial Mauser. The seller added “or best offer”. He made one counter offer and I accepted. I’m not going to miss out on something I want over a difference of 20 bucks. It’s also a courtesy thing. An extreme lowball is pretty rude, IMHO. I know a local guy selling a couple of Mausers that I think are overpriced. If he comes down on his own, cool. If not, I can pay less on Gunbroker.
Negotiating, horse trading or call it by any other name, its as American as apple pie. I would have said baseball, but they are on my shit list because of the Georgia sell out.

Anyway, whenever someone tries to sell something they are likely to get a counter offer. If its a lowball one just tell the sender that and mark him off. Don't incriminate the legions of others who are simply engaging in an American pastime.

How about the other side of the coin, sellers who come back 4-5 times dropping the price. How about listing at the the price you will settle for and mark as " FIRM ".
I have no dog in this as I rarely sell anything, but if I am buying I pay the price asked because I either need it or just plain want it. No dickering on this end.

Yup! I’m too old for this too! Laying tile? Getting down is easy! Getting up? Not so easy anymore!

Thud: Some of those guys might be drinkers that get a good buzz going and..........

I NEED a sky hook to follow me around.... I really hate pre planning how I am going to get up, Piss myself off when I forget to bring the now padded stool and decide it wont take that long I'll be FINE..... dip stick
Twice in the last year Thud was the sound I made when I could not execute a standing position quickly enough

...and the third side of the coin are the sellers who ask stupid high prices for stuff that clearly isn't worth it and they wonder why they are getting low offers. Fact is, your stuff is only worth what someone is willing to pay regardless of what you think.

I always price my stuff fairly and never have any issues selling quickly.

I used to have a client who always complained about prices and used the "I'm on a fixed income" bs on me all the time. He always pulled up to the shop in his new Corvette or on his Harley.. True story.

On the other hand, some folks bought bullets for $32.00 and then want $50.00. If I really needed them, I see nothing wrong with offering them less, especially if the item has not sold within a reasonable time. Let's say a Weaver scope usually sells for less that $350.00 on average and the seller is asking $400.00. Having checked previous sales of this scope, I might offer $325.00 allowing the seller some dickering room.

Used items are only worth what a willing and qualified buyer will pay. Bargaining is a pert of the process when dealing with used items. When you are buying a new or used car, will you go in to the dealer or private seller and pay listed price without trying to get a discount.

It's your money and their product. They want as much as the market will bare and you want the cheapest price you can obtain. Both the seller and the buyer can simply say no. No one is harmed.

I like the ones that want you to feel sorry for them. Ex...we are expecting a new baby any day, I really need these so my 10 yo can start shooting soon but could you come down a little, my cat has a hairball, the kids need new shoes...etc.
No, the price is already 20% under retail and I am covering the shipping. I am sure you can find them cheaper somewhere else, maybe.

That's a dam nice tile job. Tiling looks "easy" to the uninitiated until you start -w a few boxes tile, a t square and a level. :) The same dimensioned end tiles on the horizontal runs-noted. :) A shooting forum about sales to : tile-n-grout. Works for me.
Well thank you very much nice to see someone notice the details as little things really matter

I won't buy a pair of work boots without asking what will you take. I've always dickered price on items. I can understand being put off over a bad low ball, but how many complaining about dickering pay sticker on a car or how many forget they've done the same on a gun or other item when buying. I haven't sold anything on here but I've made some purchases and wasn't afraid to ask about a lower price. I don't think anyone was insulted and we reached a price we both were happy with. Jmho.

As some of you know I sell stuff here. I know at times stuff is hard to find and I post it a good price.
But lately I have never experienced such lowballing of posted prices vs offer prices.
A box of bullets today are from a dealer is 50.00, not shipped. I'll sell them for 45.00 shipped insured(resent price increase by postoffice). Offer from someone is 30.00 shipped.
Ain't gonna happen.
Or a sleeve of 500 bullets they only want 100 bullets and you pay shipping.

A nice rifle already dropped from build price 35-40% they will offer 80% of posted price.
A lot of the people who do that are newby's.
People remember this hobby is getting expensive.
My favorite is someone who asks for more info and more detailed pictures you oblige them. Then they turn dead silent. No further comments from them.
A simple Thank You will do. Or I'll pass on it.

My favorite is "i'll take it" and you send info and they will state funds going out in the morning. 10-15 days later Nothing, you pm them and they state I forgot to send it or I don't want it.
Meanwhile you blew off a bunch of people who were wanting it..

My reaction lately is to tell the lowballers NO
The people that forget to send funds is to just forget them after a short time and sell it to the next person.
The ones who fail to communicate is to ignore the next time.

Some people need to observe common manners in our dealing here.

Just ranting.

I rarely sell anything but recently I sold a few things and I was surprised that guys would post a public "I'll take it" then disappear... I had a guy post an I'll take it, then disappear, then come back and apologize for disappearing and offer to send the funds priority mail with a tracking number and disappear again...... and I hate to say it but the worst offenders were the ones that didn't contribute to the site.
