Bit of a Rant

great job on the tile. Ive got a shower I need to tile and I haven't done it before. Ive been procrastinating awhile. just hiked 10 miles yesterday and couldn't walk last nite. still sore today. I'm 64
I’m only 56 but have several I will just say problems and believe me I’m feeling it but the tile was just the latest thing I’ve been doing drywall insulation drywall finishing ceiling texturing and painting and still have cabinets and other things to do such is life when you’re building a new house41F387AD-3D3A-491E-ACD4-7D6C23BE7005.jpeg

I rarely sell anything but recently I sold a few things and I was surprised that guys would post a public "I'll take it" then disappear... I had a guy post an I'll take it, then disappear, then come back and apologize for disappearing and offer to send the funds priority mail with a tracking number and disappear again...... and I hate to say it but the worst offenders were the ones that didn't contribute to the site.
the ones that say " ill take it if?" then you get back to them right away and don't hear from them for a day or two, all the while your holding the item and probably lost several sales. I don't do the if's anymore.

hanging rock is not easy work for sure. I built my pole barn by myself except for the concrete work and setting the 42' trusses, when I was 57. I knew then I better do it cause I wouldn't be able to soon. couldn't do it now.

I hung taped and textured drywall for 35 years no easy job for sure at your age, and your work looks first class.

I understand bartering for price on used items, new items from a retail location is a bit tacky, but not uncommon. But for services that include parts it goes downhill with real quick with me.

Widget Specialists, how may I help you?

Do you service Widgets?

Yes I do.

Can you replace my widget if needed?

Yes I can

Do you have widgets in stock?

Most common ones

Can I bring my own widget if it needs replacing?

As long as you bring the correct widget, and it will accept OE programming, yes.

Are certain you can repair or replace the the widget in my wazzoo and program it correctly?

Factory trained and certified. I pay a monthly fee for factory widget downloads so that I can do the job correctly and program it when finished.

Can I wait wile you replace the widget in my wazzoo?

You’re welcome to wait but I advise against it. The process normally takes between 5-7 hours.

Since it takes so long to do the job and my widget has lasted 327 times it’s normal life span, do you think it would be wise to just replace it?

Replacing with new, would be the only way I could provide a warranty on anything other than installation. Same if you provide the widget. If you provide a faulty widget, I can not provide a warranty.

Sounds like the best thing to do, would be to is have you install a new widget in my wazzoo.

If you’re sure your widget is bad, then yes.

I read on the internet that a faulty widget sometimes causes this problem.

Have you considered having the internet repair/replace your widget?

Google said you do that. Can you check it before replacing it? I don’t want to buy one if I don’t need one.

I consider that part of a complete service.

So if you check my wazzoo and the widget is bad, and I have you provide, install, and program it, how long is the warranty?

Three years, parts and labor.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, for a job that size, I need to book it 3-4 days in advance.

Is there a charge for that?

Yes.

What if I bring my own widget?

Grrrrrrrrrr:mad::mad:

IF I come across something that interests me and the price is fair, I give asking price. When I sell, I place a fair price on the item. When someone tries to haggle said price down, I go up. Once I have increased price to that prospective buyer I do not go back to fair price. My way of saying "Don't cheat me and I will not cheat you."

I wonder if that was one of mine... I occasionally say that in my ads, and sometimes include "... and silently cursed."
It may have been, - I was doing an estate sale of a bunch of stuff for my Mom after my Dad passed back in 2019 and noticed that a seller said it. - I was thinking to myself, I’m already giving a great deal on everything and there are a few that keep trying to push the prices down even further, so I put it with some of my adverts and it helped reduce the dickering.

I make it simple . If I'm serious about a item I will ask if that is your best price . Then I will either walk or purchase. I use to get upset as I have always priced very fair . To me it's not making the most that I can . I enjoy this sport and I like to see others enjoy the same past time . I do see some on here that I believe this forum helps with their yearly income . But I have watched this forum change in the last couple of years and I wish I could say it was for the better but I'll keep my comments to myself.

As some of you know I sell stuff here. I know at times stuff is hard to find and I post it a good price.
But lately I have never experienced such lowballing of posted prices vs offer prices.
A box of bullets today are from a dealer is 50.00, not shipped. I'll sell them for 45.00 shipped insured(resent price increase by postoffice). Offer from someone is 30.00 shipped.
Ain't gonna happen.
Or a sleeve of 500 bullets they only want 100 bullets and you pay shipping.

A nice rifle already dropped from build price 35-40% they will offer 80% of posted price.
A lot of the people who do that are newby's.
People remember this hobby is getting expensive.
My favorite is someone who asks for more info and more detailed pictures you oblige them. Then they turn dead silent. No further comments from them.
A simple Thank You will do. Or I'll pass on it.

My favorite is "i'll take it" and you send info and they will state funds going out in the morning. 10-15 days later Nothing, you pm them and they state I forgot to send it or I don't want it.
Meanwhile you blew off a bunch of people who were wanting it..

My reaction lately is to tell the lowballers NO
The people that forget to send funds is to just forget them after a short time and sell it to the next person.
The ones who fail to communicate is to ignore the next time.

Some people need to observe common manners in our dealing here.

Just ranting.
good you got it off your chest/ - we all need to do that now and then. As ive said i agree with you and Im in favor of good old American Capitalism - negotiations between buyers and sellers is what makes it work. This is the system that taught me i want to negotiate from a position of strength so I can tellum to take it or leave it or take a hike LOL
the lowballers i dont even pay attention to.
( inless i wanna have some fun with them)

I have been reading this thread from the beginning and have started a comment several times, but always deleted it. I am shocked at how many people feel offended when they get a counter offer. A "fair price" is a totally subjective concept. I understand that low-ball offers piss you off, but all you have to do say is no.

I recently had an item for sale on this forum and had a gentlemen reply that my price was too high. That he had purchased a similar item not to long before for about 20% less than my asking price and asked if I would come down, he offered a bit more than his previous purchase. I rethought the deal and realized he was right and sold it him.

The flip-side of the coin are the people who are trying to sell stuff they bought, that they don't need/want. They paid $100 for it, so why shouldn't you feel that $90 is a "fair price". Personally in that scenario I always buy new.

For a large part of my professional career I sold very high-end capital goods (Caterpillar construction and mining machines). I can assure you, I quickly developed very thick skin. Had I not my family would not have eaten very well.
