Bit of a Rant

A guy posted a WTB ad for an item I have and had considered selling. I saw it at midnight and replied by PM with my phone number asking him to call the next day. Immediately, I received this PM from him:

"I'm going to be straight forward, I'm not looking to pay stupidity/panic prices.
What part of nc are you? May be able to work out a ftf."

He still hasn't called or responded and there have been no replies to his ad.
What did I do wrong?

Good post, timely. I’ve been a member here for 7-8 years maybe. One of the first things I liked about this place when I first came here is the lack of attitude. The whole place had that friendly neighborhood feel, I’ve received a lot of help here and it’s been appreciated. The classifieds have always been the same for the most part, I’ve bought and sold and never have had a bad experience. It’s seems like I’ve noticed a little more attitude as of late, impatience, snippyness etc. not a lot of it but ...... more Than I’ve seen in the past. Hopefully the forum maintains what’s its always been, a very good place to come and get help, ask questions, offer help, share knowledge and that would include the classifieds. Treat people honestly, follow through when you commit, watch the low balling and negativity. I hope that’s what happens. Seems like everyone is a little ramped up right now between Covid and other things.

It will be 4 years here for me in another week or so. You guys yearning for the days of yesteryear must not have been around forums for very long. Every one I've ever been part of has changed over time, just like life. People come, people go, the vibe changes.

For me, this is still a really great place with way more good apples than rotten. YMMV.

I used to have a client who always complained about prices and used the "I'm on a fixed income" bs on me all the time. He always pulled up to the shop in his new Corvette or on his
I've eaten milk bones when I was a kid. They didn't taste too bad as I recall.
When I was a kid I had 5 cousins that were within a year of age of me, and we all hung out as kids at granpas house alot, cause he lived on a lake, and bred bird dogs. One of tbe girls who was a straight a student and to this day would still be described as being much smarter than average ate a bunch of beef jerky shaped dog treats because she honestly didn’t know they were dog treats. We still remind her of that once in a while lol

Nothing - his loss!

Thud - I hear you. Integrity is what you are seeking. I'd wager it exists in large measure, but your experience may be skewed by a few. Just my guess.

You had a 6.5X47 Lapua rifle for sale couple months ago; I was interested!

I considered a "lower" offer to you to "help" me decide to buy, (but I didn't really need another 6.5X47), and your selling price was spot on.

So no offer.

My experience on AS has been superb; buying and selling. 100% awesome.
I'm a simple guy and yet I ran a successful business in NYC for 35+ years ( not many sentimental folks there) and negotiated w every sort of human. :) Keep the faith, pal. When you have to separate the wheat from the chaff, smile and toss it up.

If I see something I want and feel the price is fits MY Definition of reasonable it's usually "I'll take it, send me your paypal info" or whatever service we are using to transfer funds and it gets done quick. If I think the price higher than what fits MY Definition of reasonable but there seems to be room to haggle I'll send an offer and maybe we negotiate..... Or not. If the asking price is crazy high or in the range that I consider to be a gouge then I'll send a low ball and if they wanna play let's make a deal, great - we can haggle... if not then screw it. I refuse to pay gouge prices and I will not make any non-essential purchases until prices stabilize. It's supply and demand... the more unreasonable I consider the price the lower my level of demand..... won't be the first time I coated a gun in grease n plastic and tossing it into the back of the safe for a decade or so.
