We have a real problem round here once the corn starts gettin' picked. Seems every raccoon in the area finds our house at night and eats the cat food. Once it starts, they just keep coming back. Last year they found the chicken coup. Killed 8 hens and my prize rooster in one night. So, I started taking it serious. I tried shooting them with a .22 to keep it quiet, but these coons round here are just a pinch too big for that nonsense. They can take hit after hit and just run off into the dark, which does not please me. Aside from the fact that they are bringing about $9.00 each, they stink to high heaven a couple of days later if left in the woods where they die.
SO, tonight I decided on a different route. I don't really talk about my rifles much on here but this is one I got from a client in trade some time back. It is a Remington LTR .223 barreled action in a B/C black with green webbing stock. It has an 8oz Rifle Basics trigger and a IBA one piece mount and rings. It sports a Bushnell 10x40 Mil-dot scope as they are, in my opinion, a great all around scope for the money, even if they are only 1" tubes.
I shot this big boy at about 10 yards whilst he was munchin' on the kitties food. Hit him straight on in the head with one Fiocchi 50 ballistic tip, that was moving at about 2850, it did not exit. He flopped for a few seconds but didn't leave the front yard. The scale read 23 pounds when I weighed him...he's a decent sized one for around here...to put it in perspective, the rifle barrel is 20" long...the piece of cardboard he is laying on is 23x24...ya...he won't be eating any more cat food...
And he won't be the only one to experience this combination in the near future...
