Hi all..
I've been out today and zeroed my new CZ457 lrp in 22lr and the eley match ammo gave crackers..
Using the same batch of ammo
In my CZ452 varmint I don't get them.
There both 20 inch barrels 1 in 16 twist rates.
Only difference I know of is the LRP has a match chamber
Why would it do this..?
I use a silencer

Excuse my ignorance but I have never heard the term "crackers" in regards to rimfire shooting. What does the term mean?
 
Eley .22LR match ammo is often much faster than the "speed" printed on the box, even in a barrel like the CZ 452 Varmint (which is not long). They can easily be faster than the printed "speed" in longer barrels.

The only way to know if louder rounds are in fact supersonic is to test with a chronograph.

I was also unfamiliar with the term "crackers" with regard to .22LR ammo. I usually associate it with cheese.
 
Crack as in muzzle crack..
I've never chronographed a 22lr before but as I have the new Garmin I will out of curiosity..
The LRP has a match chamber..
Maybe the bore is tighter..
Does anybody know the reason why I'm getting crackers with the both barrels being the same length..??.

I’d say it’s the difference in bore diameter.
I’ve had the same lot of good ammo shoot 25-30 FPS difference between two different custom barrels, and it shot great at both speeds.

The last thing I want is muzzle crack as the intention is to keep it all quiet..
Yes after good accuracy..
I did a little more testing today and the accuracy was ok..
Rws long-range was good but loud.
R50 was good but loud.
Eley match wasn't good and the loudest..
Centre x was the best and quiet which is where I will be going it seems.
42gr winnie subs were dreadful and unstable as they weren't going strait through the target, never seen that before..
So far I'd say my old CZ452 varmint is more accurate than the CZ457 LRP though I am enjoying shooting a new rifle.
I'll have a play with torquing the action screws20241223_123209.jpgR50 and a little shooter error..
All groups are 5 shots at 50yds prone in the wood
 
I forget where I found a chart, so I can’t give credit that due - but the speed of sound is slower with lower temperatures, so ammo shot in warm weather may be under the barrier but over when shot in cold weather. Maybe this is what you experienced. Keep in mind there is variance between individual rounds in a box. Not sure what altitude these #s refer to…….

70f = 1,128 fps
30f = 1,085 fps

Speed of sound changes with temps. Ammo velocity changes with temps, too.

When it's colder the same ammo will on average be slower. It will speed up as temps increase.
