Coyote Hunting is now ILLEGAL in Eastern NC!!! Red Wolf Scandal

For the past few months it has been illegal to take a coyote in eastern NC..... yes illegal to shoot a coyote on your own private property. This is all because our red wolves allegedly being mistaken for coyotes. Genetically there are no 100% red wolves (not even in the zoo's).... So what exactly is a red wolf? The original breeding pairs chosen in 1975 by the US Fish & Wildlife were not chosen by DNA but by their head shape.....yes..... HEADSHAPE.... The 14 heads that were least shaped like a coyote became the red wolf(not DNA based). Since its inception there has been almost 30 million federal dollars spent on this hybrid species not to mention the damage done to wildlife populations in our area. Here's a link to a local forum with tons of information:

I say again..... Nearly 30 million dollars has been spent for what is now 7 established breeding pairs of wolves not to mention how our deer and small game populations have been decimated

This Red Wolf Restoration Program is now under review and if any of you guys have any input or opinions of the effort we could use your help to hopefully do away with this failed experiment please send your comments to the following addresses

Thanks in advance for your input and help

I've been warning game managers in the northeast that we face the same thing, but they just laugh. They don't want to admit that their funding is in danger and their departments will become just wolf protection agencies. Our coyotes are now basically eastern gray wolves (at least 60 percent). I think we are a very short time from having coyote hunting banned here too. Our deer are already getting scarce, and there is practically NO small game.

Funny, nobody wants the mountain lion, which is the real top predator. Could it be that dog like creatures are deemed cute and friendly, whereas a mountain lion will just flat eat you. Actually, wolves will too, but that fact is actively surpressed on this side of the Atlantic. Not so much in Europe, where they are still feared.

Here is the skinny from the NC Wildlife Commission.

i have been told by at least 4 differnt game oficers to gut shoot wolfs. that way they run off and hole up and die in 2 or 3 days. if you use avarnimt bullet or have a passthru they can't find the shooter. it seams to work. don't wait or it will be like out west.

In my youth in deep east Texas in the '60s we still had pure red wolves and very few coyotes. Over a two decade period I observed the rapid growth of the non-native coyote population breed out the indigenous red wolves. Eventually we had larger coyotes and no red wolves.

I'm no "expert", just an old guy who has spent most of his life out in the outdoors.

They had a wolf problem in the Upper peninsula of Michigan, but triple S pretty much cured it. Now the wolves have crossed the "ice bridge" in the Lower and just by chance, the retired biologists just happen to know where to find them in hundreds of square miles. Humm?

It is a federal offense to sell a bunkbed without instructions on how to get into the top bunk. Everything is illegal and the usgovt does many things that do not make sense. The people making the decisions never feel the effects of their ideology.

Went through the same thing in Arizona years ago. The very day the "red wolf" was declared "extinct" in AZ I collected the scat from one that I had been seeing in the foothills of the Chiricahua's for several years. Now there is a website stating "there are only 100 red wolves left in the wild." Quite a comeback for an extinct animal.

Anti hunting, is just another avenue for gun control(loss of constitutional rights). Lead ban is the same, just a different street to the end. The wolf is the same game, it isn't really about wolf it is the gun. Just as the "new" assault weapons ban is not about "our safety", but government controlling citizens, instead of citizens controlling government.

Zombie Red Wolves!
If that's not a reason to eradicate them I don't know what is.
