For the past few months it has been illegal to take a coyote in eastern NC..... yes illegal to shoot a coyote on your own private property. This is all because our red wolves allegedly being mistaken for coyotes. Genetically there are no 100% red wolves (not even in the zoo's).... So what exactly is a red wolf? The original breeding pairs chosen in 1975 by the US Fish & Wildlife were not chosen by DNA but by their head shape.....yes..... HEADSHAPE.... The 14 heads that were least shaped like a coyote became the red wolf(not DNA based). Since its inception there has been almost 30 million federal dollars spent on this hybrid species not to mention the damage done to wildlife populations in our area. Here's a link to a local forum with tons of information:

I say again..... Nearly 30 million dollars has been spent for what is now 7 established breeding pairs of wolves not to mention how our deer and small game populations have been decimated
This Red Wolf Restoration Program is now under review and if any of you guys have any input or opinions of the effort we could use your help to hopefully do away with this failed experiment please send your comments to the following addresses
