COVID-19 Vaccine -- Over 70 Age

Josh,

FWIW Bexar County finally launched a common notification tool for when openings for appointments come available from the big public providers here: the Alamodome run by city / county health employees, the two specific senior citizen centers administered by Wellmed, and the University Health clinic at Wonderland Mall. Just text "Vaccine" to 55000 to get those alerts. UH at Wonderland Mall has been recognized as a Model Clinic, and that's where I received my vaccinations. They totally have their act together so it pleased this bureaucracy loathing engineer to no end that's where I secured my initial appointment.

For HEB Rx, CVS, and the only WM Rx here so far, folks need to watch their specific COVID-19 vaccination websites.
Thank you Sir! I saw that on the News. I’m signed up at three different spots around Kerrville and Fredericksburg. I’m 63, so I don’t qualify as “old” yet. I have high blood pressure and a heart murmer but that doesn’t put me in high risk. It’s OK! I don’t go out much and I never did like crowds! My wife says that if she didn’t “force” me to go out, I’d be a hermit.

St Sandra and I are 81, got the first shot Thurs morning. No problem yet. I didn't even take the suggested Tylenol. No tenderness. Looking forward to the 2nd shot and "freedom".

I am having a hard time understanding why masks and distancing are still required after the 2nd shot????? to prevent Chinese flue.

At the family gathering last night we decided we would continue to wear masks in public gatherings Walmarts, grocery stores etc. , just to ward off the common cold and flue. None of us (8) have had anything this winter. I have a Doctor friend who for years carries a mask when he flies..... hears one cough and on goes the mask. Maybe he is on to something.

So, the wife and I got our second shot here in Miami yesterday afternoon. Easy peasy and we were in (Jackson Memorial Hospital) and out in 20 minutes! Wife had some chills last night and I had the same sore arm I had with the first shot. One advantage I hadn't thought about is that you get a COVID card from the CDC attesting to your receipt of the vaccine. Will make travelling outside USA a lot easier. Reminds me of the old yellow WHO card I had to carry to other countries with a list of vaccinations they might require.

Anyone 65 or over or anyone with comorbidity's that doesn't get the vaccine is a moron. Remember, Charles Darwin, in his Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life), put forth the idea of "survival of the fittest".

Guess we're morons then. My wife is an RN at the local hospital Intensive care floor, been an RN for over 43 years. She had to get tested, yes she was positive, my Son then had to get tested because he works in a pharmacy and yes he was positive.

We all had the same symptoms, achy muscles, loss of appetite, sinus headache with drainage. I'm 66, never have had a flue shot, take zero medications, 120/80 BP. Last time I was at a Doctors was 6th grade after sticking a file thru my foot while playing mumley peg.

Wife says she'll retire if they force the vaccine on employees, they closed the covid section at the hospital. Son said in the entire past year they have filled two, YES only 2 flue prescriptions. Where did the flue go? Covid cure the flue?

It's a free country so we are free to make our own decisions but keep your eyes open and look at the big picture of what's going on. We'll take our chances on a 99.9% survival rate versus an unknown substance injected in our body that may alter our DNA.

To each their own, so long as it doesn’t become mandatory. I work a lot in Hawaii, live in rural Arizona, two very different places as far as how they handle the pandemic. I’ve traveled a lot this past year, wear mask where required or out of courtesy if I’m around others. I don’t plan on getting the vaccine and I respect those that want it. I’ve had a lot people want to debate this with me and respectfully decline....

Well Wife and I got our First yesterday Pfizer ,me 74 the other half 73 . Not a problem.
Our Governor is so Nutty I am Surprised it happened at all . The Information put out changed by the day and Hour.

That date will be one year we have done Lock Down.

I live on the border of Manatee and Hillsborough Co., just 30 miles south of Tampa. There is a place somewhere in Tampa, University Mall (wherever that is) you can sign up for. I did and nothing. Been a month. Far as I know other than Sun City residents, there is no other place to go. Plus, I do not like and rarely drive into Tampa. I hate cities.

Wife has us together on two lists in Sarasota. Nothing. If you are not in the VA system, a nursing home or "first responder" ... nothing. Even asked my doctor last week at a normal check-up. Nothing. If you do not have and use internet, I bet there is literally no chance.

Any progress @CaptainMal? I have friends in NY in their 40s getting vaccinated now. In FL you still have to be over 65, a front line medical worker or have one of a few listed health disorders (and still be over 55). Says a lot about FL's management. (In the UK almost a third of the population have had their first dose.)

Topstrap, you are a very lucky man! Two of my friends, both in their mid 70's darn near died with it, both ended up in the ICU for a week. One is a heavy equipment operator and in good shape, don't know how he is doing. The other cuts all his own fire wood and hunts dawn to dusk. He now has tachycardia, Docs say it was caused by the Covid.

I am 81, been ridden hard and put away wet, often.(it's called life) Got new hips, pacer and aortic valve. I do not want to experiment with the CHINESE FLUE. Got my first shot this week.

Yes, I've read Orwells 1984 and I don't like the way our new leaders are headed, but that's another story.

Sorry, I kinda agree with JimT

Just don't expect to travel to a LOT of countries in the future. Expect a lot of countries to require a COVID vaccination 'passport'. They exist for many other diseases in a lot of countries. For example, early last year, before COVID got going, I had to get a visa for travel to Ghana and they required documented proof of a Yellow Fever vaccination. Why? Because it's still an issue there. No problemo. The shot knocked me a little for 2 days but it wasn't a biggie. COVID intervened and Ive yet to travel to Ghana but will likely be heading there soon.

I'd expect a lot (likely most) employers to demand a COVID vaccination certificate as a condition of employment simply because the cost of not having it is too great.

For my kids to start school in the US we had to provide documentation regarding all their vaccinations. Not a biggie. For my residency permit I had to be tested for vaccination antibodies as I had zero records of vaccinations. No problemo. (In my time if a kid in the neighborhood got the mumps, measles or chicken pox the parents herded all the kids into the one room and let them play for a couple of hours so that they'd all get it while they were young and could recover strongly from it (rather than get it when older when it could be very damaging). Thankfully there are now vaccines for these and other diseases. That's progress.)

I’ve traveled to Aftica and South America quite a bit but I don’t see that happening in the near future If ever again, I’m self employed so that’s not an issue and my seven kids are all raised. Me and my wife think alike on this issue. It’s a good example that one scenario doesn’t fit all of us and the importance of being able to choose what it right for you.

I enjoyed your last paragraph. My eyes have become wide open since both sides of the isle of the deep state threw Trump under the bus. Even the Church should have took a stronger stand. It is what it is now, and we must go by our own decisions not what is being fed to us by the media.

edit: this was in reply to Topsrtrap post above.

Re Topstrap comments.

Buried friend of 20 years (and my personal FFL) last month. Age 70. Dead 10 days after first symptoms.

Sister-in-law (age 69) was in ICU for a month. Alive only because my Nephew forced her to go to hospital. Her blood oxygen had dipped into the 60s.

It is good that many people have survived the virus. That is great news.

But do not say this is "just another cold" or it can't be fatal... My friend Glen, now six feet under, would beg to differ.
