COVID-19 Vaccine -- Over 70 Age

Here in Mn the vaccine distribution system is screwed up just like our vehicle license system. Another democrat governor who didn't want to plan for the vaccine rollout, because of political reasons. Hoping I have already had it and moved on, like 98% of individuals, since I'm 60 and could be months away.

Bullshit. Pfizer's Phase 3 trial participants received their second doses at the end of August. In the six months since then: zero COVID-19 hospitalizations, zero deaths.

Nobody knows how much longer than 6 months the vaccines will work. How could anyone know, given that the vaccines are so new?
Just to Add Friends in the field of my Wife talked about a Boaster Shot in Time ??

They are discussing a booster shot but a previous reply is correct. The 3-4 month window is worse case. It could be a decade or more. No one knows until a scientific sized, sample population has had the vaccine. The MRna vaccine didn’t happen in just the last year. Scientists have been working on it for more than a decade. It has great potential for more than just COVID.

As a member of the military (17 years) I was vaccinated more times than I care to admit for things I had never heard of. I didn't really have a choice. I also had confidence in the folks putting those needles in my arms, (except the Anthrax series - that was kind of sketchy).

All of these vaccinations were based on a credible threat to make sure that I could still do my part and make it home safe.

Life brings changes and now I travel extensively to go to work. I live in a camp at work, and when I am home I do a very good job of isolating. I have been tested 39 times since last February and every time it has been negative. I had 88K air miles last year.

I have managed to stay out of harm's way by protecting myself. IF I get the vaccine, I have to do all of the same things I still do, but now have to intentionally take the risk? No thank you.

I will be waiting for the masks to come off, travel to open up, businesses to re-open, restaurants to allow folks inside, and FAR less government overreach before I take the vaccination step.

What I won't do is say that anyone should or should not get the vaccination. It is a personal decision that should be made by the absolute expert for your body - you - not a government shill.
You got some pretty tortured logic going on there.

The one comforting fact is that since you are “the absolute expert for your body,” if you do contract the virus you won’t need to see a doctor and you will refuse to be hospitalized if it comes to that.

Our illustrious Mayor filled out the paperwork wrong and Kerrville isn’t getting any vaccine. I would have to go to San Antonio to even have a chance. They’re giving out a whopping 9 thousand doses a day, two days a week, when they have doses. With a population of 2.3 million, I give it a year!
Josh, Uncle Joe has Delaware dialed in fairly well. Got my second shot on Monday. Had to travel to Dover Downs speedway to get it. FEMA was set up for the second shots. Took about fifteen minutes.

I am 76 and live in Iowa (republican Governor). We are like 47 on the list to get vaccines. I will wait until June or July when they are begging for people to take the vaccine.

I was scheduled to get my second shot last week, but that was during the "big freeze", so it was cancelled. Got a call yesterday to show up today. After standing in line outside for 45 minutes, I was at the door when my phone rang to advise me that they had sent me to the
wrong place for the Moderna 2nd shot which was next week.

Not a big deal if I get it next week. Just want to see an end to this mess.

Turned 71 yesterday and got my 2nd shot, these girls just might let move back in the house in the next week or two.

74 Yrs old.Got my first dose about 2 weeks ago, and scheduled for #2, dose March 17 th. My arm had a sore spot where I was injected for like 2 days 5 hrs and 23 minutes. ALL IS WELL..

Had 1st Pfizer jab courtesy of Co. Health Dept. program for seniors three weeks yesterday. Could have been water for what minor ache my arm had for 36 hrs. I’m closing fast on 72.

2nd went in yesterday, went to work. Same arm more tender upon turning in but I slept OK. Felt kinda ‘off’ upon rising, abdominal discomforts, a little off-kilter body-wise.

Went to work, steadily became more uncomfortable, finally went home after 4 hrs.

Slept for next 4-1/2, ate some lunch @ 5:30.

Here’s hoping it’s just a 30-hr setback, full shift tomorrow.

My wife and I are getting dose number 2 of the Pfizer vaccine tomorrow. First dose had no ill effects on her and I had a sore spot on my arm for a day or two. One of my friends says the second dose resulted in chills for a 4-6 hour period. We shall see but I am happy to be able to get the vaccine. I am old enough to have received the polio vaccine from Jonas Salk himself. My sister had polio and suffered a lot. I am a big believer in the science but I don't fault anyone who doesn't want to get it. Everything in life has risks including getting in your car every day. Ask Tiger Woods. Good luck to everyone and I pray you all avoid this epidemic whatever you decide on the vaccine.

Good to hear! My wife finally got her first shot this morning. No bad reaction.......yet. Don’t know when I’ll get mine. I always thought she was going to bury me, but I’m still being optimistic and careful. I’ve got too much work to do!

Haven't been in a hurry to get my shot as I've had the China Virus. I will be getting mine on Monday at my regular Doctor's office.

The vaccine does two things: 1) induce an immune response to produce antibodies tuned to attack the spike protein on the outer surface of the COVID virus. These antibodies will continue to float around your system for several months after vaccination. And 2) train your T-cells how to recognize the virus when seen and how to produce these antibodies. No one knows how long this "training" will be effective or how quickly the virus will mutate to get around the immunity vaccination induces. It may well be possible that we'll end up with annual COVID booster shots, like the annual flu shots. None of this is an engineering problem, it's all cutting edge health science.

There's some discussion about giving folks who've tested positive for COVID only one dose, based on the theory that your immune system has already been "primed" by exposure to the the virus and for these folks that exposure takes the place of the first shot.

If you have a strong reaction to the 1st shot (like I had to the 2nd) it probably means you fit this case.

Of course, right now this is just discussion. The white coats have not made up their minds about it.

Got my first jab of the Moderna version today.
So far, so good. I've talked to quite a few that said the second is worse. Like others have said, I just want to get this chit behind me and get on with life.

Many many have no reaction to either shot except for maybe a little soreness around the needle stick. Good luck with yours.

You hear from the ones that had a little problem and very little from the people that had no problems.
If you have had the China Virus you will fight to be in front of the shot line!

Josh,

FWIW Bexar County finally launched a common notification tool for when openings for appointments come available from the big public providers here: the Alamodome run by city / county health employees, the two specific senior citizen centers administered by Wellmed, and the University Health clinic at Wonderland Mall. Just text "Vaccine" to 55000 to get those alerts. UH at Wonderland Mall has been recognized as a Model Clinic, and that's where I received my vaccinations. They totally have their act together so it pleased this bureaucracy loathing engineer to no end that's where I secured my initial appointment.

For HEB Rx, CVS, and the only WM Rx here so far, folks need to watch their specific COVID-19 vaccination websites.
