I've always believed demonstrations aren't a driving factor of the surge in Florida. Stupidity and ignorance is.

Of course they aren't. Everyone knows, since the MSM tells us, that "Peaceful" demonstrations do not spread covid. Only demonstrations aimed at preventing people from earning a living and earning a living spread covid.

Yep! “Stupidity and ignorance” pretty much sums up the average protestor with a strong predilection to property damage, violence and looting thrown in.

We're certainly gunning for #1 in confirmed cases. On deaths we'll try to conserve a few bods although daily hospitalizations of 250 people isn't sustainable. Texas isn't giving up the bronze medal easily.

"Groups are ok if they don't exceed 10 people."
"Any group size is too large."
"Two meters is safe distancing."

Nope. So far so good. Less so in Arizona, Texas and Florida. Let's hope California continues to to a good job. But it's very early days on the daily death rate front. One thing is for sure, the supply of hospital beds and, more importantly, trained staff working in hospitals is not unlimited.

Today the median age of new cases in Florida rose to 40.

I would not be surprised if sometime around today saw the low in the 7-day moving average of daily deaths nationwide as those states experiencing surge conditions begin to dominate the figures.

Uncertainty begs prudence. There's a lot of the former and, in some quarters, not much of the latter.

Masks are no substitute for distance. Do some of the basic "facial coverings" work? Who knows. I've seen a plethora of implementations that I would suspect offer next to no protection including people not covering their noses, ill-fitting and flimsy masks, people pulling them off their face to speak without distancing, facial 'screens' that don't filter any of the air coming up underneath them, people wearing them over their eyes on planes etc. In some respects, masks are basically a last-ditch hope for people, belligerent or otherwise, unwilling or unable to social distance. They likely offer more protection against lawsuits: "well we advised people to wear masks and social distance; what more could we do?"

Yet wearing a face covering, any kind at all, has become the sheet anchor for those who "stand with the science!" In a recent House committee session (I watch C-Span), the Dem chairman spent 30 minutes arguing with and shaming several Reps who were not wearing masks, even though they were all seated at least 10 feet apart (looked like farther.) "I'll go with the science" was the chairman's mantra.

I see joggers and dog-walkers outdoors in the sunshine and wind, alone and apart, dutifully wearing a mask. As if a single virus floating on the breeze could, like a gamma ray, strike at any moment, and that's all it takes.

You have to admit it's become pure virtue signaling for many, as much a political statement as anything. Somebody with an oval office chooses not to wear one, so there's a knee-jerk response en masse. Of course, miss Nancy gets a pass.

I don't wear it walking down the street when I can comfortably distance from other people but I will put it on well before entering a store or public place such as any building or queuing even if outside.

Political statement. Fashion statement. Whatever. People have been doing that with T shirts ever since they were invented. No surprises there. Either way, wearing one or not around others becomes a matter of whether you want to be courteous and respectful or just be a dick - whether standing before a nation or in line at a bus stop. Better to bias towards the former, and to set an example, than the latter.

Forget about the hat for a moment - although it may be difficult not to - what sort of image does this man portray before others? I couldn't care if he were wearing a Trump cap, a Biden cap or no cap, the guy is still a dick.

A mask doesn't stop me getting sick. It stops me from spewing my germs everywhere. Not wearing a mask in an enclosed space is like sneezing in someone's face. Just because I can't see everything that's coming out my mouth doesn't mean I'm not consistently exhaling into the space I occupy. The fact that I feel ok and don't have a fever doesn't mean I don't have COVID, it just means that I haven't developed symptoms yet. I might tomorrow. Then I've spent several days spreading it everywhere I go.

I hold doors open for people not because it helps me or because the other person can't open the door themselves, but because it's polite and courteous of others.

Florida breaks down its statistics into different age buckets but currently individuals 65 and older represent 14% of confirmed cases, 51% of hospitalizations, and 85% of deaths. Yup this virus preys on the old. But they were going to die soon anyway, right? More interesting perhaps than a bunch of old geezers (to be clear, I'm being facetious) is the fact there is increasing evidence that those who have been hit hard by COVID yet have survived are left with lasting key organ damage.

Honestly, I wonder if that guy on the plane didn't just move the mask over his eyes for a quick photo op for his buddy across the aisle. He's probably required to wear a mask on that flight, and he does have one. Where's the proof he's actually sleeping that way?

Some of the things that are being ignored. This is from memory as I don't have time to dig up all the references right now, but the info is out there.

1. A study from Sweden showed that kids don't give COVID to parents, parents give COVID to kids

2. The chances of anyone under 70 without underlying conditions dying from COVID is extremely low

3. Hydroxychloroquine is indeed beneficial to reducing the severity and duration of the disease

4. Approx twice as many people have immunity to COVID via T-Cells as those with antibodies. So if NY had a 21% antibody rate, and we add a 42% T-Cell immunity, NY is at herd immunity
