COVID-19 Map worldwide, with statistics

All people die from health issues. The question is how and when they become inflicted with them. COVID is also killing a lot of otherwise healthy people (a friend of mine included) and people who would otherwise continue to live for quite some time despite various health ‘conditions’. Perhaps more disturbing, there’s increasing evidence that many of those who ‘recover’ are left with damage to key organs.

News Flash.... Covid 19 kills people with underlying health issues.
Thanks, Captain Obvious! But, what qualifies as an "underlying health issue" in the postmortem? Diabetes obviously does. Somewhat elevated fasting blood glucose almost certainly not. And that's a main point of the finding. Catching the FBG early and adjusting treatment accordingly could save a lot of Covid-19 patients.

There were aspersions cast on the essay I recently posted here from an allergist in CO regarding outdoor transmission. Today I received personal advice from my physician, who is associated with a "concierge" medical practice called MDVIP of which I am a client. (That means I'm paying good money for said advice.) I quote the portion related to outdoor activity:

Indoors vs. Outdoors
There is growing consensus among experts (including the CDC) that being outside is safer than being inside. This bodes well if you want to play golf, walk your dog in a park or even go to the beach or the mountains. Why do scientists consider outdoors safer? There's more air to dilute coronavirus, meaning your exposure is less. Second, there's usually more space and it's easier to maintain six feet of distance.

In fact, in a Chinese study of 7,324 coronavirus cases, only one traced back to an outdoor encounter. But that doesn't mean the risk is zero. Crowded outdoor spaces carry risk as do long conversations with other people in close quarters.

Since baseball stadiums are closed, and I don't choose to participate in weekend warrior contact sports like flag football, soccer, or rugby, my task of avoiding crowded outdoor spaces is a simple one.

My question to the medical expert would be, why would anyone play golf when one could do a round of Sporting Clays instead?

OK, guess the golfers won't find that funny. They don't have a sense of humor. :)

I'm a golfer. Ain't I got a sense of humor?

Does this signify anything to you, Ron? Indian Canyon

Not peer reviewed but "immunologists said it was a reputable preliminary analysis on the longevity of COVID-19 antibodies."

Basically antibodies decline within months, and risk of reinfection increases especially if you had little or no symptoms as the size of the antibody response scales with infection severity.

In other news, Florida is going for gold!! (The good news is that, while still elevated, % positivity from testing has fallen in the last couple of days.)

Speaking of shooting clays, in the UK I did a lot of 'simulated game' clay shooting as practice for the real thing. It was fantastic. Basically remotely activated traps set up in woodland with 'birds' flying through or above the trees and walkways between each station. High driven, crossing, away, grouse in open land, you name it. (Bisley alone has two fantastic grounds within the camp.) Seems impossible to find here in South Florida (by comparison I find 'skeet/trap' courses so boring) and so my shotguns have laid idle. Surprisingly, shooting and stalking (other than swatting baited hog) was so much more accessible living in central London. :(

Nice Pileated Woodpecker there. Where in N. Idaho?

Last evening on my exercise route I encountered another poor soul, a young woman, very overweight, out walking in the latest spandex yoga wear. I give her credit for waging the battle against obesity. But, with a 20 mph wind, 85f temp, and not a soul within 40 yards of her, she was wearing a face mask. That's actually hazardous if you are breathing hard enough. I just don't get the brainwashing and those who mindlessly absorb it. Scary, when you consider what the brainwashers want to do to "control" the planet's ever-changing climate.

Tidbit from this morning. Food for thought.

While Florida reported a record 15,299 new cases on Sunday - a national record - and Houston city leaders called for a return to lockdown, a declining death rate trend was highlighted by New York City, which reported no COVID-related fatalities for the first time.

I read that and yet when you look at the breakdown of New York state on Worldometer Manhattan had 2 fatalities. Last time I checked it was part of NYC. Maybe they were non-residents?

Stupidity is everywhere, but it's helpful to remind oneself that at least she wasn't hurting anyone else.

Spirit Lake, about 30 miles north of Coeur d'Alene.

A moose got mad at me once after taking a photo of her and her calf in my yard. Had to take off running. It's interesting living up here. LOL

Even without antlers she could ruin your whole week.

Hasn't Florida tripled their testing? What is their recovery rate and percentage of deaths.
Testing 100,000 with 2,000 positives against testing 10,000 and 200 positives.
Go figure.

They've had to, yes - if only as a result of track 'n trace. (More positives means more people you have to track 'n trace.) For most of June the 7 day average of number of tests was relatively constant at around 35k per day. That's why the positivity ratio was so alarming. It rose from about 3% or so in early June to above 18% last week. When the ratio reached 16% testing was expanded. Over the last 4 days the positivity ratio has fallen to 11/12% which is still more than double the desired limit of 5%. So it's not just a case of testing more and finding proportionally the same. Right now, testing is so backed up here that it takes a week to get test results back. We work in the sector and aren't able to get a fast track process for one of our employees.
