We are learning that in a health crisis there are many who are "weak" - more correctly, vulnerable. Vulnerable segments of the population (old, black, fat and other complicating conditions etc). Vulnerable jobs - jobs with little security, no support, no sick pay and 'gone in the flashest of flashes'. Vulnerable businesses - inability to adapt, over-leveraged, no capital buffers, poor supply chains etc. And people running around with placards arguing we should "sacrifice the weak." Yup they're being sacrificed. Never let a crisis go to waste.
I still haven't seen this healthy crisis

I'm not so deluded as to think that we have the power to save OR sacrifice any significant number of folks from the eventual effects of this virus. And may God save us from the folks who are trying to save us.

I'm getting so sick of the drivel and supposition that is being spouted on the news and in this thread that I'm ready to take my chances with the virus, and let the chips fall where they may. I am not a heartless bastard, I am a realist.

To me or anyone else, if the odds of dying are as bad as 5% -- well that means the odds of living are 95%. I've never thought those were bad odds.

I apologize for not stating these things in a more tender and flowery prose, but MY writing teachers taught me to avoid 200 words when 20 would do. jd

It's pretty simple: They told us to stay shut in and isolated (that is what "social distancing is right?), and we obediently did.
They based all they told us on models, and we believed them.
They told us CV19 was going to be catastrophic, and we believed them.
They made it financially lucrative for the medical industry to report anything as CV19 death or sickness.
Now we are told that the majority of people in the US want the federal military to stop the riots.

Think about these things.

"The architect of Sweden’s controversial lighter lockdown policy for dealing with coronavirus has for the first time conceded the Scandinavian country should have imposed more restrictions to avoid having such a high death toll.

Anders Tegnell, Sweden’s state epidemiologist, agreed with the interviewer on Sveriges Radio that too many people had died in the country.

“If we would encounter the same disease, with exactly what we know about it today, I think we would land midway between what Sweden did and what the rest of the world did,” said Mr Tegnell in the interview broadcast on Wednesday morning." FT

Bit early too call. In two years we will know what the best approach is. The US in the meantime has transitioned to the Swedish model. People gathering in large numbers across the nation. 5 days ago people were being threatened with arrest in New York for failing to social distance. Then all of a sudden it was OK to gather in large numbers, loot and burn.

So it looks like peer reviews of one particular aspect of treatment are starting and the results are turning out to be quite controversial.

Thank goodness there are real independent medical professionals and scientists out there that don’t let their objectivity and ethics get tainted by political beliefs. I think this quote sums op the situation quite well.

“Chaccour says both NEJM and The Lancet should have scrutinized the provenance of Surgisphere’s data more closely before publishing the studies. “Here we are in the middle of a pandemic with hundreds of thousands of deaths, and the two most prestigious medical journals have failed us,” he says.”

discusses "latest and most definitive study" on hydroxychloroquine and COVID. David Boulware, senior author of study/paper: "For post exposure prevention, this is pretty conclusive evidence that this doesn't work." Paper published in New England Journal of Medicine. I looked but don't see it on their website.

I'm no doctor, but isn't the idea to take it before exposure?

It is hard to reconcile that with the evidence from France as well as front line Drs elsewhere that hydroxychloroquine and a Z-Pack given early shortened the length of the infection. If it really doesn't help post exposure, then all those people just happened to have a shorter duration infection.

Yes, that is damning. As I've heard others say though, the damage has been done. The MSM the world over ran with the story never bothering to check into it. If it is useful, hundreds of thousands the world over could have been and maybe still can be helped. Really makes you wonder when press decided to sacrifice life in support of political dogma.

I guess your definition of “conclusive” is different than his. Of course he is a doctor and you are.....?

“The findings alone shouldn’t be used to change any of the 203 studies of the drug that were underway as of June 1, said Myron Cohen, associate vice chancellor for global health and medical affairs at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill. While the advocacy for and widespread use of the drug seem to reflect a reasonable fear of the infection, the media and social forces appear to be driving clinical decisions rather than medical evidence, Cohen wrote in an editorial.

The results “are more provocative than definitive, suggesting that the potential prevention benefits of hydroxychloroquine remain to be determined,” he concluded.”
