Cfe223

CFE223 is my go to powder when reloading 52gr V-Max bullets in .223 caliber. I plan on using it while reloading 40gr V-Max with my .204 Ruger.
I used it in my 204 with 40g vmax. I loaded from the lowest book charge and went above max charge .1 at a time and quit with heavy bolt lift.
I settled on 29.5g with 205m primers or 7 1/2.
I would start at 28.5 and go up from there see what yours likes

Are you shooting that load out of a gasser? I built 4 AR15's (3 - .223's and 1 rifle is a .204) I am still shooting Hornady factory loads in the .204 but plan on using the CFE223 behind a 40g V-Max as well once all the factory ammo is exhausted. I absolutely love the .204 on dogs, it's a real lazer!

I am using a cz527 Kevlar. I have half a box of 39sbk left that I found a load with cfe 223 as well but I can’t find any more.
I read that the nodes were very small in 204 so I literally went through a ladder test from lowest charge up to max in .2 increments and 5 shot groups.

Older thread, but 23.5gr of CFE223 pushing an 80gr Berger VLD thru my 8" twist 26" long bull barrel is very accurate in my R700 F-T/R rifle at 600yd. My only problem is how difficult it is to clean the carbon from the barrel using CFE223. Only have about 200rds they this barrel, so I'm hoping it "cleans up" after another 250, or so, rounds 'polishing' the barrel.

A lot of what you experience is heavy powder residue, probably associated with the anti copper fouling chemistry. I found swabbing the barrel with Free All and then letting it soak 24hr is very effective, then limited brushing the throat for the hard carbon.
