That's exactly what I did, 5.18 by 45. Mine shoots fantastic! I have called it a 204 short but I don't want to offend Ruger.I short chambered a .204 ruger to the same length as .223 and then shortened a .204 sizing die about .100” basically a practical with a 30degree shoulder angle.
Simple and effective, run .223 brass through your die and load. Allowed me to do a .20 cal that has cheap brass with the existing tooling I had. Probably didn’t have to but made a new gauge with 30 degree shoulder. This was a match reamer with tighter neck, standard saami .204 leaves about .002” neck clearance on loaded round
I'm very happy with it. Cheap brass, easy to form, even shoots great fire forming. Just don't size the cases too short. The fix is a pain, making a false shoulder and fire forming again.
