Case Neck Lube - Bullet Seating

Do you lube bullets to seat them?

If so, why and with what?

I do lube bullets for seating . I use powder graphite . I think it helps ease the bullet into the case neck , and also should help prevent the bullet to neck bond .

Look at Sinclairs. The have some Imperial Dry Neck Lube. It's powdered graphite that you stick the neck in so the bullet will seat easier. There were some guys on here that told me about it. It works is all I can say. If you need sizing lube use Imperial Wax. From Sinclair also.

You can put bullets in a snaplock bag spray some one shot in give them a shuffle around then tip them out to dry,I did this for awhile with good results.
I have used graphite also but now I moly my bullets and do the one shot spray with them this has produced the slickest seating so far and after seating I wipe of the one shot which takes of excess moly leaving a lovely shiney finish.

Cheers Trev.

I have a newbie question. When do you apply the powder graphite to the inside of the necks? If you do it before adding powder, doesn't the powder rub off most of the graphite as the powder drops into the case? Or do you apply the graphite after loading powder (which means you need to find some way to apply the graphite to the inside of the neck w/o disturbing the powder)....

Follow this link. I know it mostly shows lube for outside but look at the Imperial Dry Neck Lube. I just dip mine down in the ceramic balls and it's good to go. If you don't want to do that use a q-tip. I don't have a problem with powder knocking off the graphite either.

I hate handling components individually any more than necessary. The idea of applying neck lube one-at-a-time makes me run to the liquor cabinet.

The simple answer, for me at least, is to Moly coat the bullets using the wet method. They come out looking like they've been dark chrome plated; smooth and shiny.

This provides consistent and easy seating force even with very clean case necks prepared using the wet SS tumbling method.

I dip the bullet base in the graphite

What is the benefit of applying lube to the bullet seating operation?
Are you seeing a difference on the target?
Not questioning, just asking a question with the intention of learning.

I have not noticed a difference on the target, but I haven't done real testing to identify any. I found bullet seating without lubrication to be difficult at best, I clean with SS pins and that definitely removes all residual carbon. I apply the graphite to the case neck rather than the bullet. I tend to drop the bullets too often, due to neuropathy in my hands.

I do it so the bullet seats with even pressure between cases
If I dont use it the seating pressure is different between cases , some slide in easy and some are hard to go in as they grip the sides of the case
And yes I have found they affect accuracy as the ones that grip more when seating have more pressure, its only slightly but can cause group be bigger
I used to group them in the way they seated eg a hard group and a soft group of bullets but now lubing base of bullet I dont need to put in 2 separate groups
