By the Price Point, What is the MOST Popular Wind Meter Out There Now?

Just as the title says, i am looking for a wind meter that is sufficient enough for gauging wind accurately. Probably more so something that will give you temp and pressure as well. Not looking for all in one weather station, but something that is good for the price point.. in other words, i am not looking at the top of the heap.. but something that the avg joe can afford..

Here is the one I bought. It seems to work reasonably well considering the cost. If you go this route, shop around for the best price. I paid $34.95 a year ago.

The unit is able to be recalibrated on each setting. One advantage/disadvantage is the battery. It uses a rechargable Lithium version of the #2032 button battery. I bought a couple and a charger off eBay so I always have one charged up. I got this charger:

And 2 batteries:

I have a Weatherflow anemometer plugged into a i-Phone 5 (no cellular plan) and my ballistics app, which will receive data from the Weatherflow, on the device also. If internet is available it will also download nearest weatherstation conditions into the ballistics app. If you choose a Weatherflow it is best to have a device that has a microphone jack. I cannot (easily) use my iPhone 7 as it has no mic jack and the adapter is 'floppy'. I bought an old iPhone 5 for this dedicated purpose. I have about $180 into it.

If you can get cell service to give you the pressure and relative humidity, all you need is a wind meter and possibly a thermometer, and they are pretty cheap.

If you are shooting in an area that has no cell phone service and you need to know temp, pressure and relative humidity for your ballistics program, the Kestrel 3500 is their cheapest unit. It's $195.

I have an IPad Mini II.. i will have to look at it..

Thank you sir, i will have to investigate this

The main range that i shoot at.. i have no cell phone service, i don't have "V" company plan..

To do everything the EnnoLogic does, you would need a Kestrel 3500. I needed temperature, barometer, humidity, and wind speed. I would rather have the Kestrel of course, just had to go a less expensive route. Even going with Amazon's price ($47.95), this is about $55 complete with batteries and charger. The Kestrel is nearly 4X as much. And the Kestrel probably is a bit more accurate (?). This has a 10 year warranty. I have accidentally dropped it on concrete and it still works. Not pushing this meter, it just happens to be the least expensive one I could find that does all that I need. Beware, the manufacturer is charging $47 for this but I saw some ads on eBay and Amazon for double the price. It pays to shop.

I did find some specs for comparison:
Specifications
  • Wind speed: ±5%
  • Wind chill: ±1.8°F
  • Temperature: ±1.8°F
  • Relative Humidity: ±3%
  • Barometric Pressure: ±0.05 inHg
  • Pressure Altitude: ±50 ft
And for the Kestrel 3500:
Specifications
  • Wind speed: ±3%
  • Wind chill: ±1.6°F
  • Temperature: +/- .9°F
  • Relative Humidity: ±3%
  • Barometric Pressure: ±0.07 inHg
  • Pressure Altitude: av ±23.6 ft / max +/- 48 ft

I read pretty much everything this site had on the subject;

Ended up buying the cheapest POS Chinese offering off fleabay.Have a 50,100,150 yd berm right out the backdoor.Plenty of trees, tall enough grass, leaves, etc.

Once putting "numbers" to what those elements were indicating....which is what the consensus was on using bttm feeder meters....it did bump my game up.Further, the notion was....if a 15$ crappy wind meter works for you,go ahead and buy a nicer(Kestrel) meter....just sayin.

I bought the Kestral 1000 years ago it was the cheapest model they did, bout $80 from memory, haven’t needed another wind meter since. I think they go for $90-$100 now.

Well i am not going to be using it for Highpower or F-Class.. i am not in that game anymore.. but more so, i will use it learning my wind flags and the main range that i shoot for Rimfire benchrest and also UBR matches.. i am hoping that by the end of next year.. i will have it down well!

The specs do seem to be close enough.. and the price point is as such who cares about warranty! Oh yeah, it pays to shop on everything!

I've been your route . I purchased a cheap one from midway , it works , but I found my money was best used buying the best wind flags you can afford and practice watching them . You can purchase a couple then make the rest if your handy around the shop !
Keep going , the ride is worth it .

I agree that ride is worth it.. i up between two models.. I want to try the EnnoLogic, i would consider a Krestrel but it would indeed be the lowest model they have that would give me the same thing

Main thing i want it for is to compare to the flags i have..
