Best Credit Card?

We dropped our Shell MC Citi and BOA Visa and started using our Credit Union Visa.
Same here. Credit card from Ft. Knox F.C.U. Platinum VISA. 5% rebate off gas that's paid at the pump. 1% rebate of everything else. The rebate is a credit off of your monthly statement. Every month.
The only way to make it pay is to completely pay off the statement EVERY month.
Got all of my monthly bills on auto-pay. Pay everything (groceries, medical, auto repairs, etc) with it that will take a credit card. It's linked to your savings account. It acts as a buffer on large purchases.

I use the AmEx Platinum because I travel a lot and it some serious benefits for that. It isn't a revolving credit deal though. You have to pay it off every month. It has some nice benefits that make the annual fee worth considering. I don't pay that part, so for me it's a no brainer. Not sure where AmEx sits on firearms related stuff, but I suppose you could look into that.

I have yet to encounter a single business that will not take a debit card if they also take credit cards. You can run any debit card as a credit purchase.
I have had rental car companies refuse to accept a debit card to rent a car.

The major car rental companies would respectfully disagree with you. They will gladly let you pay your bill with a debit card when you return the car but to drive it away they want a credit card. It can be done but they will most likely withdraw enough from your bank account to cover the total estimated rental plus more - up to $350 for some of them. They will also run a credit check on you and if you don't meet their criteria - no car for you.

I have a ne'er-do-well step son-in-law with no credit cards because my step-daughter can't be trusted with one. My wife tried to pay for the car with her CC rather than spend four hours driving back and forth to the airport on Christmas day. Nope, they're interested the credit worthiness (and character) of the person signing the contract and taking the car. So including a three hour delay I got to spend seven hours on Christmas day in the rain and sleet driving and waiting. I wasn't happy. Two days later they wrecked my wife's two month old car - DUI. Hertz and Enterprise were right. That was six years ago and she's still not happy. We don't see them much.

Yep! They can be your best friend or your worst enemy. The "luck" gene isn't in my family genetics, so I steer clear of corporate debt. Just keep in mind that those accrued miles and 5% paybacks on purchases cost you more than you gain. Retailers pay a fee every time you use credit cards, and they increase the prices on goods to compensate for those fees. If the credit card companies are offering kickbacks, then you can be sure that everyone is paying for it at the register. Corporate America is very good at making you think you are getting a great deal. It's the reason there is so much debt in this country. Not judging anyone . . . just saying that I would prefer a self-sufficient lifestyle with zero corporate influence.

You are absolutely right in one regard...the consumer pays for everything!!! If we didn't then we wouldn't be consumers. One way or another, the consumer bears the cost. You might think you are getting something, but like most scams or cons it's the old bait and switch.
"Pay off all those credit cards, get ours at lower interest and "consolidate" your debt"
Now is anyone really dumb enough to believe they are actually doing you a financial favor????? It's nothing but a damn big "legal" pyramid game, you keep buying in, but never "cash out". The more you use credit, the more in debt you get...the more in debt, the more interest you pay.
Best financial advice I can give anyone is really simple...do yourself a financial favor and invest in Mexican hookers. They are the best!!!!

I really think you are not doing the credit card thing right. You buy stuff on the card, then pay the bill. Don’t let it build up, just pay it like all of the other bills you presumably pay every month. That way there isn’t any interest, you get the convenience of using a card and all sorts of consumer protections on your purchases, and you get paid extra money just for using it.

The credit card banks are businesses, and they want to make money. They make money on transaction fees when their cards are used, and interest on balances. The transaction fees are paid by the businesses accepting credit cards as payment, and they pass that cost along to all* of their customers, whether or not they pay with a credit card. Interest is only paid by those carrying a balance on their cards. If you don’t carry a balance, you don’t pay that. The banks make a lot of money on credit cards, so much that they can offer incentives to customers to use them. These incentives are effectively “free money” if you don’t carry a balance.

*there are of course some exceptions where there is a lower price for cash vs credit, in those instances, pay with cash.

.....The credit card banks are businesses, and they want to make money.......

And they do very definitely make money. You just said it all...and there is zero chance they can make money and give it away at the same time, unless they are raking it in to begin with. The American way, I get it. But don't ever think credit card companies are "giving" you anything. Consumers pay for all of it.

Especially the ones that have an annual fee:eek:

This is what you are missing. You and I pay exactly the same amount. We both pay the increased prices charged by businesses to offset the transaction fees they get charged by the banks. Neither one of us pay interest to the credit card company; you don't because you don't have a CC, I don't because I don't carry a balance on my CC's. After these transactions are completed, I get money back while you don't get anything.

They are effectively making money on other people and giving it to me.

+1 on amazon card. Says Chase on the back.
There are actually three Amazon cards and all are good depending on the situation:

The Chase Visa card that gets you 3% back on Amazon and Whole Foods purchases and 2% on everything else, no annual fee. Good deal.

The Chase Amazon Prime Rewards Visa card. 5% back on Amazon and 2% for some stuff, 1% for others, no fee.

The Amazon store card issued by Synchrony bank. Only good at Amazon and Whole Foods. Pays 5% back and no fee. I use this one a lot.

I've looked for the 3% Amazon, 2% everything else Chase Visa card and can not find it. Could you kindly reply with the name of that card? Thanks!

No it is not. Buddy, please go and get yourself three or four more cards. Before you know it, you'll be rich!!!!!!!

Ok, I give up. I can explain it to you, but I’m afraid I can’t understand it for you.

Have a great day! :)

I use an Amazon Prime Visa/Chase. I use it for everything that I buy and most of my bills. Don’t know what the interest rate is because I don’t pay any. They pay me 20-30$ a month. You can add the pending charges with the current balance and pay it all. My old discover card wouldn’t let you do that.

I love my Costco card. Cashback, no annual fee. One thing to note, if you rent a car with a credit card, you are covered with their insurance if you have a mishap.
