Watch your Credit Cards

By bank keeps flagging purchases I am making...one of which is Brownell's. I've purchased from them hundreds of times but now it takes a call to the credit card company to unfreeze my account and allow permission for the purchase. I think this is part of the "nudge" into compliance.
I would get a new card and maybe a new bank. Your bank is projecting their politics into their business.

My card issuer advertises in American Rifleman, big two-page ad. Card has the American flag covering it. I'll stop there (hint, hint).

I don't think it was the bank, but the card processor...which was VISA.
I disagree. When Chase dumped their relationship with NRA for political reasons, PenFed stepped into the void, and my Chase card was automatically replaced with a PenFed, who advertise in NRA publications. Both are Visa cards. See where I'm going?

The reason they rarely catch them is that they don't try. Neither law enforcement nor the credit card company give a shit. Law enforcement doesn't have the time at local, state or federal levels and the credit card companies write it off. It's aggravating. Happened to me in the past. Resulted in fantasies of catching the perps and pistol whipping them within an inch of their lives.
What did you think was going to happen when today's civilization evolved into everything convenient. We all take advantage of it but then then turn to bitching and crying when it works against us. Too easy to pirate phone numbers or set up ghost emails. Don't blame LE and Feds for everything...you cant track what can easily dissappear as fast as it appeared. Thank big Tech for that. We are our first lines of defense. Maybe complain to your congress and senator persons. Why do you think others on this site warn of false websites or sites that do not use accept major credit cards for processing? If ya dont use use common sense or proper research, don't blame law enforcement for your (not you specifically) ignorance.

Been watching the news any? Visa and their conglomerate came up with a new system to go after gun sales. My bank is a local bank and certainly never exhibited anything anti-gun.

Switch companies.... I've never had that problem. Navy federal and USAA are good to go.

I most profoundly disagree. I spent over 45 years as a software engineer. Much of that time doing low level protocols in routers and other such equipment. Everything (and I mean everything) can be tracked and it can be tracked at many points from your machine to any eventual destination. Your federal government is tracking everything now. Peeling off the data using intercept points at terabyte speeds and archiving it all. The trouble is that you are perceived as a bigger threat than those who would compromise your accounts. That may not be true at a local level but it is certainly true at a national level.

Now lets talk about today's news (or perhaps yesterdays news). Visa has agreed to join Master Card and Amex in creating a new merchant code for gun stores. All of your purchases using a credit card will now be tracked. No effort to stop fraud, all the effort is directed at monitoring and controlling you. That is the world we live in today.

I guess I look at some things differently than so many. First I never buy a firearm with a credit card, it is either a check or cash.
Second, it bothers me not that the CC companies are being advised or made to report sales with a CC, so the government can trace them.
This is because the government is already able to trace any firearm sale, legally bought from a dealer, due to the DROS paper work required, which they have a copy of. So in some ways, the CC having to report something that is already headed to the government is nothing new. Just more added paperwork and another addition to the work load, they can not keep up with, even now. Just spinning their wheels.
I know this applies to legal firearms sales and not to those subverting the buy, from an individual or on the black market. Anyway, does it really matter if you are being legal and lawful with any firearm purchase ?

It is not clear to me that the new gun store merchant code is due to government requirements... yet. It was reported that the public sector unions in New York and California drove them to do it. Once in place however there should be little doubt about where the info will end up and how it will be used. There should also be little doubt about the motivation of the unions, who they advocating voting for and what their end game is.

They are doing in anticipation of it improving ESG scores.

Yes, it's a big problem, 4 times last year...some start out with small fishing charges...like $20 for some flower at a funeral 2000 miles away. Fast food charges $43 In N.Y. and $63 in Miami...or my leather bag purchases in Paris France which were more expensive...it ain't getting any better.

There's a limit to what Visa can do to discriminate against legal products and businesses.

I had a major fraud about 8 years ago. Went through the process with Visa, did not loose a penny. Have had several instances with Discover where they contacted me and also on a disputed charge. I provided them a copy of the disputed contract, did not cost me a penny. It will only get worse. Limit the number of cards is what we have done. NO store cards. Use your credit card , you have protection. Debit card you have pretty much no protection.

Just a heads up.... I saw a letter from a friend stating that Ruger online had a data breech. This was August 2022
(If this was already posted by someone I overlooked)
Anyone that has shopped there has probably had their credit card info stolen

Is it against some policy not to actually name the bank?
The ‘stagecoach bank’
I guess is Wells Fargo
Of course naming the bank and the story being embellished or untrue is another matter.
It’s, to me like reading anything that includes ‘unnamed party’ or ‘ a company I won’t name’

Use Privacy.com for online vendors/purchases. Single use "burner" cards and vendor specific cards with monthly limits or transactions size limits for online subscriptions. Quit trusting online vendors with your credit cards and personal info.

I got one of those letters on the Shop Ruger data Breech. I’m not sure, but I think the letter was a scam itself! I filed it in the trash can.
