Berger 7mm 190gr long range hybrid

True, isn’t it. After 4 days of increased percussion and recoil it seems that the 7mm’s come out on top at the end of the week. That is why I’ve decided to keep working with the ‘7’s’.
I have toy’d around with the 30’s but I always come back to the recoil. It takes a lot to manage it. You have a lot more to think about.
most that are shooting 30’s are shooting it because they can’t read the wind and think the 30 will overcome that.

Rardoin, I am considering a Sherman 7ss, and would be curious to hear your thoughts on it, compared to the more common 7s?
I ran a 284/Dasher last year, and going to try BRA and have. Shehane barrel coming this season, but am intrigued by the Sherman. Have not seen one up here in Canada yet though, and interested with your impressions. Thanks.

The only other 7mm I have shot is a straight .284 Win with 184 Hybrids. I found it difficult to keep in tune. I did test the 190 LRH’s and I could not get them to shoot as well as the 184’s. Thus far I find the 7 SS easy to tune/broad tune window on charge weight. I would assume all the 7 SAUM variants would also behave the same. I chose the Sherman because of the great proper headstamped brass, available reamers and dies and the longer neck (which I hoped would improve barrel life). I just retired my first barrel at just over 1800rds shooting 190’s at right at 2800 fps. I was able to get a very good fire forming load with the 190 LRH running about 2680 fps but I didn’t pursue it further. I just decided to fire form with the bullets I wanted to shoot in matches. I am fully confident I could get a competitive 190 LRH load if I devoted some barrel life to the effort.

Shot the 184's this past season with good results. New season, new gun and thinking about moving to the 190's. Valuing your opinion, would you move to the 190's and if so, would you stay with a 9 twist for them or move to an 8. My barrel guy does not offer an 8.5.

rardoin, what powder are you shooting with the 190's at 2800fps and approx. how many grains? I am wondering how the 7SST would perform with the 190's.

I would go with an 8 over a 9tw. My barrels are 8.25..... close enough to call them 8’s. I shot a couple of 4”

I use a 8.25tw...go with the 8.

First test today for me in new 7/300wsm reamer and 8 twist 31” Krieger

My JGS reamer is just designed to straighten the case a little, believe normal is 16 thou body taper and I reduced it some, not to 10 thou though, went to 260 FB, 314 nk , sizing reamer is with bullet central getting a new Micron die made, so will need to fire form until it’s ready because standard die will not work

I was already shooting WSM, I f I was starting from scratch I would go Sherman 7 max and get ADG brass

I was about 79.2 H2O with Norma 300wsm brass in standard size and now 79.7,
sherman short about 73 and Sherman max 77, 284 is about 67

190 Berger LRHT with 65.90 gr N570 25 OTL found the 2865 node today, it was about 55F at sea level, I tried N570 because I had some and I have the room in this case...also have N565, IMR 8133, and about 5 lbs H1000.....I need to focus on one and see if it can handle 25 rounds at a time, I do not have 30lbs of any powder and don’t have enough spare time to shoot vast amount of supplies anyway, I do have plenty of 190’s as others have sold on here at decent discount and I have enough primers for my pace of consumption, will just need to keep an eye out for more powder at some point

I have used quite a bit of N570. It’s a great powder, but burns very hot. Especially with 7mm. With 25 shot strings I would be looking real hard at H1000,N565,N570 in that order is what I would try. I have a few 7 saums and a 7-270 wsm.
