Berger 7mm 190gr long range hybrid

I had to look up what AFAIK was as I've never seen this abbreviation before :).
No awards that I'm aware of but a benchmark that all the bullet makers strive for..!!
The A tip has pushed the boundaries but can they be as consistant as the Bergers..?
There must be a good reason why Bergers never use ballistic tips..?
Maybe somebody already knows and could enlighten us..!!

Did anyone test new Berger 190 on 7-270 WSM or 7-300 WSM ? I used to shoot Berger 180 Hybrid @ 3150 fps and Berger 184 Hybrid @ 3130 FPS with good results . I had a try with a 7-270 WSM 9 twist gun but it was no good . Starting from 3000 FPS up to 3100 , no problem , no sticky bolts but no accuracy . I think even if on the box is written twist 9 or faster it must be minimum 8.5 . I had a 8 twist barrel and I’ve fitted it but I can’t go to the range because we are locked down. I’m using mainly Hodgdon 4831SC or N165

68 F , 35% hum , 30.34 BP, +250 DA in Louisiana
7-300wsm, norma brass, 215m primer, 30" bartlein bbl, 8.75 twist

2.417 CBTO, 3.157 COAL

Reloader 25

63 gr = 2784 avg (started w/ clean bbl)
64 gr = 2860 avg 3 shots, 12 es, 6.5 sd and good accuracy
65 gr = 2902 avg 2 shots (3rd wouldn't chamber) 1.8 sd 2.5 es

I shot the 65 gr load at 1000 with out any further testing then above and it was no good, it wasn’t horrible, just not good, but that was at the end the day and no real testing other than above and haven’t tested it again, since

I had take out 2.5 moa vs my 180 hyb at 2940 vs this 190 hybrid at 2900+, which means one my speeds isn’t what I think it is

others have reported a node around 2910

snuck out this afternoon with the perfect weather...

i have one/two bad velocity per string, except the first string with 190's(series 27) the most accurate was series 27 also......more testing is needed near this 2920 area....i would have one or two rounds per string that were not a perfect bolt close, which is frustrating and needs more investigation also....should bring the calipers with me to the range, to see if measurement are different once i am there....and series 29/30 were getting too hot

7-300wsm, norma brass, 215m primer, 30" bartlein bbl, 8.75 twist

Quick load says i need to slow down to 2860 ish for a node with RL25 or switch to RL26 with less powder and hit a node at 2910
The 1.53 ms in 30” bbl if I am doing this right
the next node is too high, 1.3 ms node shows 71k pressure at 3060 FPS with both powders

also, my 190’s measure 1.575 - 1.590, Berger list 1.601 oal

I do have RL26, so I will try it next

first trip w/ RL 26 today, 88 F, 30.00 BP, 55% Hum, +2100 DA

7-300wsm, norma brass, 215m primer, 30" bartlein bbl, 8.75 twist, Berger 190 LRHT

all 2.410 CBTO and 3.155-3.160 COAL

my velocities were quite a bit faster than QL, i measured 79.2 gr H20 and the 190 i have are 1.574-1.592 oal, vs book 1.601
once i adjust BA in QL to todays results it puts back in that 2880 area for 1.53 ms node...

RL-26 62.04 gr = 2932 avg, 7.6 sd, 15 es - best accuracy so far with 190's...3 shots
RL-26 62.52 gr = 2947 avg, 2 sd, 4 ES ! but 1 inch group...3 shots
RL-26 63.02 gr = 2974 avg, 7.3 sd, 13 es 1 inch group....3 shots
RL-26 63.52 gr = 2991 avg, 7 sd, 17 ES 3 good, 1 not....4 shots...but getting pressure signs

will try slowing down futher, during this summer time testing

Anyone running these in a 7 rem mag? Got a few on the way and was looking for a good place to start either Retumbo or h1000... talked to Berger already. Their numbers were extremely “conservative” and I wanted to get a bit more info before they get here.
Rifle is a single shot BAT HR with a 9” twist Bart 5r.

I am surprised that you were getting pressure signs. I have a 7 saum with 184's and have shot to 64.5 grains with no pressure. 3.150 COAL. for 2990 in 24" barrel. Accuracy was 2970 with 64 grains.... Fed 215.

No, the node is slower, multiple reports and quick load have it 2850 ish, I just haven’t gone there yet, trying to find another around 2900+ to match the 180 at 3000+.....I have another batch loaded for this weekend at lower charges

there is a nice long thread on another site about the 190’s past 1000 yds with 7 saum, 26 or 28” bbl and 2850 mv and loving them
I have seen the 190’s shot in person with straight 284 in f class around 2800 also

alright boys, today i had 84 to 88F F, 78% to 72% Hum, 30.03 BP, +1850 DA to +2000 DA
7mm-300 wsm, 30" bartlein 1:8.75 ROT, Norma brass, this bbl is near its end of life at 1000 + shots, but my primary load before the 190's was 180 hybrid w/ 4831 sc at only 2935 and then maybe two matches of RL 25 at 3000 + fps.....i have another bbl chambered with same exact reamer, waiting in the safe...

my goal today was to slow down the speeds to get to the QL/OBT nodes around 2850 with RL 25 and 2900 w/ RL 26 and 2850 with H1000

The old load with 180 hybrid and 61.02 gr H4831sc and 2.420 CBTo was only 2873 avg today, but first three shots on clean bbl, old notes had this at 2935 originally...

using fx-120i scale
Berger 190 gr LRHT, everything 2.410 CBTO and Fed 215m primers
i did sort the 190's by OAL
3 shot groups, unless noted by user error on the lab radar

RL 26 60.02 gr = 2851 avg, 12 sd, 24 es....very good accuracy
60.52 gr = 2867 avg 4.7 sd, 7 es, but no good accuracy
61.02 gr = 2880 avg = no good
61.52 gr = 2909 avg and good accuracy
62.02 gr = 2920 avg and good accuracy......these two charges need to be explored more...this is the QL sweet spot also with RL 26

H1000 next, first time trying H1000 ever in this rifle and the es/sd are great, but the paper doesnt fully confirm it....all these 3 shot groups have two on top each other and one out

H1000 62.02 gr = 2793 Avg 4.6 sd, 9 es
62.52 gr = 2803 avg 2.3 sd, 4 es
63.02 gr = 2829 avg 1.7 sd, 3 es
63.52 gr = 2845 avg 5.8 sd, 11 es.....last two charges had best accuracy

RL -25 had best accuracy today, but with worst numbers by far......

RL-25 62.50 gr = 2877 avg, 16.7 sd, 24 es.....v good accuracy
63.02 gr = 2887 avg 23 sd, 33 es...only chrono two shots, but 3 shots in group extreme good
63.52 gr = 2908 avg, 16.4 sd, 23 es, only 2 shots on the chrono, 1" plus group
64.02 gr = 2911 avg, 15 sd, 29 es, v good accuracy...........now that i see the 63.52 gr avg basically the same confuses me,,,,

forced myself onto a raining range this morning.....75 F, 87% Hum, 30.03 BP, DA +1250-+1400...pretty consistent rain and no good vision to see....all at 300 yards

7/300 wsm, 30" bbl, 8.75 rot

I started with a very clean bbl again and switched the order of powders, to shoot RL 25 first and H1000 last...also shot RL 26 today and it was shit...

RL 25 62.65 gr = 2833 avg for 5 shots, 7 sd, 20 es....good accuracy

H1000 63.92 gr = 2854 avg, 9.7 sd, 26.5 es
H1000 64.42 gr = 2865 avg 4 shots, 5.6 sd, 13 es...normal .013 nk
H1000 64.14 gr = 2844 avg 5 shots, 2.7 sd, 6.25 es......nk turned an extra thou and used my lightest primers 5.50 gr
H1000 64.14 gr = 2849 avg 5 shots, 3.7 sd, 9.9 es....nk turned an extra thou and used heavy primers 5.72 gr.....no difference in performance, dont need to mess with primer weight sorting anymore...all 215m

i was adjusting the elevation of the scope to get better on paper, yada yada...it was a mess, i need to sort out my soaking paper results, i do know the RL 26 was shit.....

Played with them today in the rain and wind at 300 to see if I can get a fireforming load adequate for shooting 600yd matches with a 7 Sherman Short mag. Downloaded to 2670’s is looking good.
