Attention: Ammo Hoarders

Well they sure don't do any good unloaded locked in a safe. May as well not have a gun for home defense because it would be totally useless in a safe.

Well since the bank only gives 1/2 % on cds now I just invest in ammo. Does that make me a horder? Im just trying to build my retirement...:-)

Mountaineer, you better watch out. Somebody will be on you.

I should probably sell my rimfire rifles now, and sell all my ammo when it gets really hard to find. At the rate the prices are going on rimfire, I would be able to wipe my ass with my SS payments

Folks I am honestly surprised. Does anyone really think that owning enough of something for use in the forseeable future is the same thing as hoarding? I am addressing people who grab the last box of ammo on the shelf when they already have a metric ton of the stuff at home.

Ammo plants are running full tilt, adding production facilities, hiring a third shift and STILL there's a ammunition availability issue. Are people suddenly shooting that much more? Nope.

Next time you step up to the buffet line for a second plate and take the last piece of chicken while the guy behind you has yet to eat, feel confident that you're exercising your right. To heck with the next guy.

If one single child misses out on the chance to learn marksmanship because a parent/uncle/friend couldn't buy ammunition...ah never mind. Maybe I'm the one who just doesn't get it.

Was at a match this weekend and while there, someone brought a pile of shooting, reloading, gun stuff for sale that belonged to a relative that died.. It became obvious, one day, all my stuff will be for sale when I die. So, buy what you can use and let someone else enjoy the rest while you're alive. DON'T OVER HOARD

Second, buying something for want it's worth (MSRP) and trying to sell it for a gross exaggerated mark up is wrong. Actually where I live it's illegal. It's called scalping. If ya can't do it with sports tickets, why 22 rimfire ammo??

Tommie,

If you'll shut up and go to your corner and never complain again about those of us whom you call hoarders. I can spare a brick of ammo to send you. But you have promise never come on here or another forum and complain because you got caught with your pants down and don't have any ammo to shoot.
If you can make a gentlemans agreement then send me your mailing info.

This is what I posted about a couple months ago, and the scalpers. But this is America so anything goes. As long as I get mine no one else matters, sad.

And what were you doing when we had this last scare back when Clinton was in office? We all have had every ample opportunity to buy as much ammo as we can possibly get up till nearly two years ago.
It's sad listening to grown men cry and moan because they were to blind to see this coming or another one of those as long as I have food on my table and a roof over my head all is good. It's never good. Buy and keep buying, stash it and hide it. One day none of us can buy it and that's what I planned my life around when buying ammo was if it ended today would I have enough to hold me over for 20-30 years. That's the mindset you gotta have in the market out there. Don't ever think you'll find today what you need tomorrow because it's just not there.
Everyone of you should have been buying a box or two each week for the past 10-15 years. Then we would have all the scalpers and for those of us whom did buy and prepared be called hoarders. It's no ones fault but your own.

This crap about some child not being able to learn marksmanship because of ammo supply is pure bs. Is there a shortage of bb guns and bbs? I shot wax bullets out of a. 38 in the garage growing up. All ya need is some primers and cookie pan of wax. Grow up without enough money to buy new bbs and. You will learn how to make a bullet trap for recycled bbs.

I have around 2000 rounds of 22 rimfire, so I'm good for a while. I load for a 22-250,.44 mag, .40 and all shotguns except a 16 gauge so I'm going to shoot if I want to. I'm just really glad there's not a gas shortage. :)

AWESOME!!! ABSOLUTELY AWESOME AND WELL STATED!!!!!!!!!

Folks also forget about all the new gun owners who have been buying ammo. That is another place millions of rounds of ammo have been going. During the Bush years, every time I went to Cabelas or Scheels, I would either buy a brick of .22lr or some reloading components. $25-30 a pop back then sure looks good to me now. I do have sympathy for shooters that are truly new to the sport, but to no one that was 21 before the last 6 years. I had a 10/22 and a bolt action growing up, and even when practicing for rimfire competitions, I never shot more than 100 rounds in a day. What is it that make people think they "deserve to go thru 1K rounds in a couple of hours? What are they "aiming" at. I like to blast also, but I can have fun shooting at vermon, or paintballs, and actually hitting them more.

My opinions are exactly like Butch Lambert's but it still ticks me off when I meet someone who is bragging about burying all the ammo he can afford and still trying to buy all he can find. Some don't realize that this ammo will deteriorate in time unless it is vacuum packed. I met a fellow shooter two weeks ago who has 8 large containers buried and still trying to buy all he can find. I have enough for myself though, just don't have enough to squander it like I used to. No more 1,000 rds. shot on a week-end, but 150 rds. on a week-end is still doable.

In the '50s, we were going to be blown to smithereens by the Russians and communism was taking over the world.
Fallout shelters were the rage and canned and dried foods were hoarded. In the 60's, the civil rights movement was in full swing. People stocked up on guns, hoarded ammo and food and moved to the sticks. You could turn to any news channel and see we were on the verge of a race war. Now we're in anarchy mode where the government takes away firearms, money is worthless, the right will take up arms against the left and chaos will reign. In ten years there will be another crop of doom & gloomers for a different reason and the firearms and ammo companies will laugh all the way to the bank. ;D
Full Disclosure, Long RGR, ATK and SWHC.

I shoot a LOT of smallbore practice. I used to be comfortable with a 6-12 supply of ammo. Now I prefer to have a 12-24 month supply on hand... that's because I am NEVER sure when or whether I can get more... am I hoarding ammo?

Agree in principle but what about the next "scare" and it's ramifications? If one doesn't think there will ever be another mass shooting and subsequent call for disarmament, well, you' haven't lived on this rock long enough. Come to think of it, how about the proliferation of easily accessible "black" guns now in the hands of newbies who think it's ok to have one standing in the corner of their living room? Cheers, Hog

Just what is wrong with me having guns in the corner of my living room?

Because of stupidity and irrational thinking such as this:

http://kdvr.com/2013/03/05/victims-of-gun-theft-could-be-responsible-for-crimes-committed-with-stolen-guns/

That and I'd much rather spend my assets on my hobby than defending myself in a frivolous lawsuit.

hogpatrol, Are you then subscribing to the theory that the victim of a gun theft is actually the criminal, rather than the 'criminal', who illegally entered into an occupied structure, committing the criminal act of burglary, then stealing a firearm; both acts being felonies??

No.

Grocery shopping at Wal Mart this morning and they had perhaps twenty 50 round boxes of CCI Stinger 22LR ammo. Price was $6.39 per box which equates to $63.90 a brick. Didn't need or want it so I passed on by.
