Attention all hoarders......

Hmmm...

All of mine is stored out in my garage, in our old refrigerator. Never had any issues with it not working.

The fridge or the powder?......:D

Still worth a look inside if you have old steel cans in there.

Just for grins today, I ran all four pounds of that badly rust oxide contaminated IMR 4831 over the magnet again. Two passes per can back into the original replacement can. The result? 99.99% of iron dust has been removed. I wiped that strong magnet with a damp piece of paper towel. Mostly just a dirt or graphite thin film on it.

A disclosure is needed here. In my 57 years of hand loading, this is the third time I have dealt with the dreaded RED DUST issue. Prior powder restorations were done with a much weaker magnet successfully. I was able to consume all propellants with no problems.

Thanks go out to 762plinker for having the will to post first his positive past findings to such a diverse group of opinionated shooters.:)

Carry on.

Excellent thread, guys. I wish I’d have read it a couple years ago when I fertilized the lawn with about half of an 8 pounder of IMR4198. I didn’t look into the can and just poured some into my powder measure. The result was a substantial cloud of red dust. It smelled fine, but having read about powder deterioration, I erred on the side of caution. I had little doubt at the time that dumping it was the right thing to do; despite the aroma being ok. Oh well, that’s water under the bridge. The next time (if) it happens, I’ll have some more thinking to do before dumping red dust laced powder.
