Guarantee they are both Asian made. Any consumer electronics most likely come from the Asian area. Don't shoot the messenger, but its all about labor cost.

Yep..and thats gonna be roughly 10-20% depending on how or where they assemble them or import. There are ways "around" tariff charges to a degree. I deal with them all the time. You can move the assembly to another tariff friendly country and same tons of money. Maybe have absorb some extra shipping costs, but still cheaper than a 20% tariff on a finished product.

I just ordered one from Expertvoice for $300. I've use a Shooting Chrony Beta master for a couple decades now, and it has finally given up the ghost. This will be a step up from it, definitely, though I got excellent service from my Chrony over the years. I'm looking forward to it arriving tuesday. I'll try shooting a couple previously chronoed loads to see how they compare and let everyone know. I've been really looking at the Garmin the last few months, but getting in for $300 vs over 5 is big. I'm also reading most of the issues with the athlon stem from using it for archery. I've never chronographed my bow, so I don't care as long as the rifle and handgun stuff are good.

After my Magneto Speed died, I bought the Garmin just before the Athlon came out. I have been 100% pleased with the ease, reliability and performance of the unit. That being said the $600 bucks was hard to drop and I would have gone with the Athlon probably if I had the option since they seem so similar. My one and only complaint with the Garmin is the battery life. I can only get about three range sessions out of a charge where as my Magneto lasted a year or more on a single 9 volt.
