Athlon Optics Rangecraft Chronograph

What I have not seen, or heard information on, is how the Athlon will perform at a range. Will it block out neighbors shots on the range? How does it work with other Athlon units being used at the same range. Just wondering, I have not seen this touched on yet. If it has, I missed it.

Its just as good as the Garmin in testing errant readings on neighbors shooting. Garmin and Athlon both didn’t start reading shots until they were within 2-3 feet of a firearm. So unless a person is shooting with you shoulder to shoulder, you shouldn’t have any issues.

There’s a side by side review over on The High Road by a well known and knowledgeable poster named Varminterror.

I keep seeing these side by side testing of radar chronographs. It has me wondering how it is they’re not interfering with each other.

Did you test it? Or read something on the internet?

And Garmin has a long history of sucking in the software department. I’ve liked and owned their stuff for decades but the software implementation, updates and server syncs can be frustrating at times.
I agree that they have had issues but at least they work at it.

I’m not a reloader, so I’m looking forward to being able to compare SDs and ESs on my favorite factory loads, In addition to better data into my ballistic calculator.

Reliable internet source. No different than anyone else on here saying they tested it.
You are aware that this website, you and I, and everyone talking here, are also “on the internet” correct? LOL!

Heres a link if interested in the video

I wasn’t being negative, just laughing a little at how people promote things to their benefit. It goes on all the time in this forum.
Correct. And chronographs will be no exception.

My Rangecraft Radar showed up today.
I paid $350 from Natchez.

Great little hard case with organized compartments. Menu is super easy to use and had no need to read the manual to set everything up. Also worth noting is that the included mini tripod is solid aluminum and actually has some weight to it. I was expecting a cheap plastic or polymer tripod so was happy to see a quality aluminum tripod.

Pretty impressed so far. If it reads bullet speeds consistently as I’m sure it will, then I think we have a winner!

I just ordered one from Expertvoice for $300. I've use a Shooting Chrony Beta master for a couple decades now, and it has finally given up the ghost. This will be a step up from it, definitely, though I got excellent service from my Chrony over the years. I'm looking forward to it arriving tuesday. I'll try shooting a couple previously chronoed loads to see how they compare and let everyone know. I've been really looking at the Garmin the last few months, but getting in for $300 vs over 5 is big. I'm also reading most of the issues with the athlon stem from using it for archery. I've never chronographed my bow, so I don't care as long as the rifle and handgun stuff are good.

Yeah it never misses a shot with rifles and handguns. Even reads my super quiet suppressed PCP air rifle every time. Haven’t tried it with my bow yet tho

Works great with my crossbow. Can't shoot a vertical bow anymore or I would check. The Athlon's are not too fussy with alignment. Set it up per the instructions and it should catch every bow shot.
I shoot suppressed air rifles down a 3' wide hallway in my house. Never misses a shot.
Haven't had a chance to try firearms.

There have been issues reported using with bows but Athlon has been steadily following up with software updates. I believe it was last reported by them on the Facebook page that they have a fix in. May be worth making sure you have the latest software rev. I’ve had mine since the first month deliveries and have had no issues with exception to some phone app. hangups that were corrected quickly by them. Rimfire, Centerfire and pistol. All good so far…

Athlon - Lenexa, Kansas
Garmin - Olatha, Kansas
They look so close to each other it would not surprise me if an Engineer left Garmin to work 5 min closer to home. What I have not seen mentioned is healthy competition is good for everyone bringing that cost down.
