Athlon Optics Rangecraft Chronograph

Maybe I’m gullible, but I don’t get the negativity. I’ve met this guy in person and he’s not a bad guy. Why can’t we just take it for what it is and move on? I don’t think anyone that already owns a Garmin is going to toss it and buy an Athlon, but the Athlon is a solid option for someone that doesn’t have one yet and I bet the market agrees.

I wasn’t being negative, just laughing a little at how people promote things to their benefit. It goes on all the time in this forum.

One thing that gets overlooked is product support and especially software support. Garmin has a long history of providing support for their products and software (including interface software). Athlon on the other hand has been a company basically buying products from suppliers. I don't know who is manufacturing this chronograph but its support is likely hinged on Athlon paying for it. They may well be committed long term but they don't have a history yet. Long term the product will work (hopefully) but the interface software may go by the wayside. That is a risk that should be considered in choosing a chronograph, any chronograph but especially one that is expected to track many shots, not just a select few.

I think the garmin is made in Taiwan

I did some quick research and while I couldn’t find a definitive answer, it appears that Garmin has manufacturing facilities in China, Taiwan, and Kansas. You could be correct or at least partially correct, as there is the possibility that parts are made in one location and assembled in another.

Per a Garmin rep on another site...

"Garmin doesn't use OEM manufacturers in China. Garmin consumer products are built in Garmin owned factories by Garmin employees in Taiwan"

That’s interesting. They do have two companies incorporated in China, but there’s not much information available on what is made where.

250 extra dollars saved for the Athlon will go toward more powder. From what I've seen the Athlon is faster.
I would not trade my Garmin in, but i would go for the Rangemaster over the Garmin just because 600 bucks is a lot for a 3oz box.

Using optics quality as a comparison to chronographs is laughable, not even in the same universe.
The Arken cronos have not been out long enough to fully field test them and
as far as where they are made is really not relevant because most all of the electronic
components are most likely from Chi-na.

I want to know if you are able to go back and add shots to a previous string of shots in
this new Arken crono something you cannot do with Labradar or the Garmin.

You noticed I didn’t say, Athlon vs Nightforce.;)
