AR-15 vs AR-10: Accuracy

Phil,
I watched friends shoot their AR10s for years, while satisfying my desire for bigger bore semi-autos with an M1A & SAR-48, both 308s. I shot AR15s for years in IPSC, Steel Challenge, and NRA HP before finally giving in and buying a set of DPMS AR10 receivers and building up a beast of a 6.5x47 Lapua with a 28" Krieger that I contoured, chambered, & fitted myself. It's no beast where recoil is concerned - the 6.5x47 has much less recoil than the 308 AR10 I built later - it's just a beast to maneuver. Several years down the road, and there are now 4 AR10s in the safe - the original 28" 6.5x47, 22" 6XC, 22" 308 - all on DPMS receivers - and a 25" 7mm-08 Imp on a set of J-D Machine receivers. Even though I don't shoot any of them much anymore, I understand your desire to play with one.

Mine all have LMT SOPMOD buttstocks & Daniel Defense Lite 12 rail handguards, custom barrels, 20 MOA sloped scope bases, etc. No more than I shoot them, I probably should've sold everything but the 6XC & 308 when prices were outrageous, but they're still here, taking up space & collecting cobwebs. Sooner or later, the itch to shoot them will come around again, and one or more of them will get some use. Not sorry I built & experimented with the AR10 platform, but I also have several AR15s in 223, 6 RAT, & 6 HAGAR that will shoot tighter groups more consistently than any of the AR10s.
