Any Pistol guys here?

Browning Buckmark...very accurate. We have the "Camper" model with adjustable sights. It's light weight enough that my wife and 8 year old son can shoot it.

1911s and glovk have converstion kits... just a new slide and mag.. thatd be cool..
The conversion kits are very nice options and not too bad price wise if you already own a glock or 1911. I have one for my G22 which is also a duty gun for me. It definitely helps using that conversion kit ( practice wise) on a gun that you carry for personal protection or duty use. For someone not already owning a pistol that works with this conversion, it's a very costly option. Purchasing a Browning, Ruger or wheel model .22 would be a better option. For those that do have a glock frame or 1911 that fits this conversion, it is the way to go.

I am looking at buying my first handgun and am curious about what you guys think of the Smith & Wesson M&P22? I am looking for a reliable accurate 22.lr for shooting at the range for fun. No competitions just for fun.

Thanks
As the previous owner of both the S&W M&P .22, and the S&W Victory .22, I would recommend the Victory. Better sights and sight radius and much simpler to disassemble for cleaning.

get the new Ruger MK IV it is easy to take down and maintain over the previous ruger pistols in the mark series. browning buckmarks are excellent also.

I got my daughter a S&W M&P 22 full-size and compact. Great guns. I have a S&W 22 Victory. All three are reliable and accurate. The Victory is more accurate, because it is a target pistol.

I have an M&P 22. It's a fun gun. It's decently accurate with high velocity bulk ammo. A little better with pistol match grade stuff.
It knocks the plates down at 15-25yds with Aguila Interceptors.

i know first hand that not all S&W k22's function the same. My friend had one that would shoot great just about any ammo put in it, i bought one and it would not shoot a full clip without jamming, tried everything and could not get it to shoot, new springs, new dampers new whatever, ended up trading it to a Walther P22 - my wife has put probably 10k or more thru that thing of the cheapest ammo we can find, it almost never jams and is decently accurate for plinking.

Roger MKlll with the bull barrel. Parts readily available and an all around great Shooting 22

If I was buying my first handgun, it wouldn't be a .22. Knowing what I know now, it would be a Gen 3 Glock 19.

I've never shot the .22 S&W you are interested in. That said, most all the recommendations made on this thread are good. My suggestion is to go to a store or range and physically handle some of the ones you are interested in. Ergonomics and comfort can make or break a weapon. Some of the .22's are smaller frames and not compatible with all shapes/sizes of hands. Try a few out for feel and shoot a few if you can. I'd recommend the following pistols giving minor consideration to cost: Ruger MKIII, S&W 41, and the Sig Trailside/Walther Xesse. Don't forget the revolvers, lots of great .22 revolvers out there.

Different pistol, but I can tell you I was dead set on getting a surplus Makarov until I shot one. It felt awful in my hand; uncomfortable to hold, painful to shoot. I ended up with a CZ-82 instead and it is very comfortable. Same goes for the XD's, while they are a fantastic pistol, I don't like how they feel in my hand. The fit/feel of the gun in your hand should help you narrow down some of the options.
