Cheap AR barrel , Hidden gems ?

I
If you're looking for a 16" or less, the faxon is ok and even the CHF palmettos (made by FN) are a good choice.
I'm pretty sure Palmetto State Armory gets there barrels from DC Machine in Summerville SC. They are both part of JJE Enterprises.
I personally have a Faxon and it is NOT a shooter.

Who suppies Wilson Combat barrels?

Cheap and moderately priced barrels are hit or miss proposition. Hanson 1 good, 1 semi good, 1 terrible. Wilson Combat, kept 6, sent back one, 4 pretty good 2 only moderately accurate, one being a pistol. Bison Armory 1 tried, okay accuracy but $375 area ...Faxon pencil one tried, not very accurate but it's a very thin profile. 9mm cheap Stern, one fairly accurate, one total reject, large step in bore chamber transition. Odin Works rejected, wouldn't chamber a 9mm bullet over .3550" ...most 9mm bullets are over in. 3353" to .3555" jacketed & cast .356" bought a finish chamber reamer from Brownells to correct the problem...it chambered rounds now but was of moderate accuracy. The most consistent were Proof Research stainless-steel 4 and 4 were acurrate. Schilen 3 and 3 were accurate....but then you're into $500 + per barrel area, but if I expect accuracy that's where I go....So, that's some of my experience. Sometimes ya find an accurate cheap barrel...just purchased a moderately expensive 6 twist 223 experimental barrel, inspected and polished, bore and lead. Wait ing for parts...do I expect it to be super accurate ...no...but I could be surprised, it has potential, when inspected...

That could be. I was under the impression that the hammer forged barrels were, at least at one time, overruns from the FN factory. Maybe they are not anymore.

I also wonder if that wasn't a rumor designed to help sales. They are a big box store now. I'll bet if it were true FN would get a premium price.

Could be. Palmetto, especially at first was just having other companies make everything for them and putting their name on.
