Any new 2017 builds?

Nick. If you want to see some of the nicest wood gun blanks. Go to Old Tree Gun Blanks. Him and his dad have supplied wood stocks to the Weatherby's since the 40's. That's where I bought my screwbean mesquite blank. The blank wasn't cheap, ($2035.00) but it's rare and a real beauty. Terry Leonard never worked with that kind of wood before and he was excited to build the stock because most of his stocks are Redwood which is OK but there are a lot of them out there. He built me a pistachio stock built on a new Farley Black Widow that came out real nice. When I shipped him the blank, he said to me I hope you didn't pay a lot of money for this. I said why? He said because it's kind of plain. Well I said we could use it for a chock block if it doesn't come out too good. That was the long running joke about that stock. It took over a year to get finished because at one point he accidently put his hand into his table saw, (OUCH!). But towards the end he kept telling me that the more it gets finished the better it is looking. The end product wasn't all that bad looking for a $400.00 blank.

I have bought a few from Old Tree. Unfortunately I can't afford something of that level. I wanted to try my hand at making a stock on my own and didn't want to mess up a high grade bank. I still have one of the banks on my shelf. I have to many projects going right now. Someday I will get to it.

Nick

Thread resurrection..... My Game Warden showed up for the 700ML. I'm very happy with how it turned out. :D

These 3 guns sure make hunting season a lot of fun.

I'm picking up my very first custom from the FFL tomorrow.

It's a .308 built by Short Action Customs using a Mausingfield action, Bartlien 26" MTU 1:10, Manners T6A chassis and a Kahles 624i with ARC rings.

It's killing me because it came in yesterday but I've been so tied up at work that I haven't been able to pick it up.

Planning on taking tomorrow off so I have send some rounds down range!

Got a call from Joan Borden today. My rifle is ready to ship. Tube action in an Eliseo chassis with a 30" Kreiger barrel. 6.5x47 Lapua. I ordered from Gary E. right at a year ago, sent off to Borden with the barrel last summer and it will soon be in my hands. Pics to follow.

IMG_0770.JPG This is my first scope gun to play in the F-open space and practical service rifle comps.
- Tikka action/original Tikka trigger
- 27" Hardy Med Varmint barrel/1:8 twist/ 6.5mm (.260 caliber)
- KRG W-3 stock
- NF NXS 8-32-56 scope

I have run it in, sorted a zero for 100m. Will be taking it out for its first foray at 900m this Monday with a load of Berger 140s

I'm building my first custom after spending too much time trying to get my 300 wsm Winchester to shoot. The new 300 wsm is being built on a blueprinted 700 action. I picked a Bartlein #3 contour barrel, HS Precision BDL style stock, and a Jewell trigger. I am still undecided on scope and mounts, and am pretty sure I am going to put a brake on it. I wanted to get this gun completed as fast as I could so I had time to work with it before an October elk hunt so I went with parts that were in stock. It should be complete sometime this summer.

Finished the 284 win short action build onwhich shoots very well with the 162 Amax at 3000 fps. This was a velocity/accuracy number I hoped to achieve. Haven't quite taken it out past 500 yards yet but the weather looks good for it now. Put the 450 Raptor project on the back burner and moving forward on my 22-250 AI build slowly. Just got the barrel yesterday, 30" 8 twist 1.055 straight taper to just under 1.030. The neck chamber is .255 so shouldn't need to turn any brass necks. Putting it on a savage short action and Richards micro fit Thumbhole target stock. This will be a fall completion project just in time to see how well it anchors long range coyotes. The 284 win starts with a trued Rem 700 SA action , Bartlein 5R 9 twist 25" Sendero contour barrel, Manners T4 stock and Sightron S-TAC 4-20x50 moa scope. Shoots 162amax loads around 3000 fps @ 2.975 oal and keeps them around .2 - .3 with regualrity out to 500 yards. Kinda happy so far.

View attachment 1000322 Here is a prototype F-Open Chassis that we are working with Gary Eliseo on (www.gotxring.com). It is the same as his current F1 chassis, but has a different barrel block. Instead of using a glue-in block (which is not reusable), this has a clamp-style block with 16 screws. We are going to give it a whirl at the BSWN next week. (Defiance Deviant Action, B&A trigger, March 5-40x56 FFP scope). Notice the entire action free floats behind the barrel block. The cheek piece is much narrower than a standard wood version: very comfortable and allows you to get right behind the scope easier.

Neat looking rig Scott.......:)

Both are bartlien 1-8 medium Palmas?

With a mag bolt head and firing pin set for it for the 6.5 gap and using h1000 for it, haven't tried anything else yet...

Kelbly Atlas Tactical action, Krieger sporter #5 1-14, Jewell trigger, Bell & Carlson Medalist, CDI bottom metal, AICS magazine, Leupold 3.5-10x40, Talley lightweight low rings, Butler Creek caps. Chambered in .22BR/0.246 neck by Steve Kostanich. Shoots pretty well with 32.9gr H322 and a 40gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. Looking forward to getting the first coyote in the crosshairs. :)

Bat ll reduced.jpg

Had the Broughton 6 Dasher barrel and McMillan stock, so I picked up a Bat B action, Jewell trigger and trigger guard. Planning on using her for Bench Rest this fall. The trigger wasn't installed yet in this picture.

Not planning on any "builds" at the moment, but I've got plenty of projects instead.

Need to work on reloading for my Ruger No1 in 218 Bee.
Need to continue to work on a load for my Winchester 670 in 225 win. This may also need to be re-bedded.
Need to pick up reloading supplies for my Howa Mini 6.5 Grendel, but first order a replacement stock.

I've got a switch barrel set up with a 6x45 barrel that I'm not overly impressed with. Might sell it when dies and reamers become available for either a 6mm-22 nosler, or 25-22 nosler.

I've also got a bastard 6.5x47 Lapua that I lost interest in and have been thinking about selling to fund a 6.5 Creedmoor.

Few other rimfires I've been thinking about selling to fund an Anshutz sporter as well.

And I'm sure I'll pick up a Ruger American Rimfire Target in 22 mag as soon as I find one ....

The biggest project will be trying to make time for all the things I want to get done!
