Any new 2017 builds?

Starting with the .222 rem. 722 my dad bought in 1955, I have a McGowan 24" Remage SS barrel in .222 rem.
12 twist due here Wednesday. Shootin buddy is loaning me his .222 go/no go gauges & another SB has
the barrel removal & installation tools. Richards Microfit Blue Coral laminated prone stock.
Spent a few hours last week lapping in the bolt lugs. Another shootin buddy donated to the build a Tubb
adjustable butt plate and a Tubb handstop rail for the foregrip. Topping it with a Leupold VX3, 6 ~ 20 fine reticle
scope.
Now the only debate I have is whether to retain the stock Remmy trigger (which was made long before all the
lawyers were added to Remmy triggers) or to spend my meager funds for Timney / Jewell / ?, trigger assembly.
Of course, there is about three months worth of work on the stock to fit, inlet, glass and pillar bed, shape to my pleasure,
sand it to smoother than a babys backside. THEN, another (the 3rd one) shootin buddy is gonna spray a high
gloss clear finish on the stock.

Sweet! Gotta love those smokeless MLs. I shot a few deer with mine this year but no long range. Seemed like every time I took it instead of the slug gun, I had a 100 yards or less shot. I'm still using sabots. That 70 grain plus loads kills on one end and maims on the other, right? Or does the brake do a good job of knocking down the recoil?

I didn't end up using a brake on this rifle, because I figured it would be a pain while loading. Recoil is manageable, so I'm happy with the decision. The buttpad is pretty soft, and the vertical grip on the chassis probably helps some as well.

I'm using an adjustable smooth swinglock die to size the Parkers. After some fine tuning, they seat easier than sabots and the accuracy is fantastic.

Mausingfield in a Manners T4A, 6x47l X caliber barrel 7" 5R. 26" long, Vortex AMG on top.

It's together, the Burris is on it till the tax return comes.

Gonna get my R700 in .223 up to snuff with a new trigger and will start looking at an action overhaul and barrel for next winter.

Finishing up an AR in .223 with an 18-20" barrel for some local long-ish range fun.

Finishing up a 1911 I am building off of a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec. Most of the major work is done. I just need to checker the front strap and have it "painted".

Almost complete:

I'll be back on it after the Bergers!!

Trying to decide on either a 6x45 or a 6BR for 200 yard max. at my house. Shooting off my deck so weight not an issue. Have a 6BR, but it won't shoot 68's since it's throated for 105's. Shilen or PacNor, another battle due to neck dia., freebore, etc. Not sure I'm going to see any difference in the two and can't make up my mind. Anyway, I have something of a plan for 2017.................. Aren't we lucky to have so many choices?

No flies on the 6x45, but since you already have the 6BR why not just chamber a zero freebore, not turn neck and have at it.......;)

I have a .20-221 AI going together and at least two others that will be switch barrel guns, we`ll see how far that gets.........

That's what I'm leaning towards. Still have lots of brown box Lapua.......

.271 neck with .060 freebore is what I'm thinking (Shilen). I can live with the .060; I'll never shoot it enough to wear it out.

Out of curiosity, anyone even remotely interested in building for these cartridges?
.218 Bee,
.219 Zipper
.219 Donaldson
.225 Win
6mm Intl (now that we have the 6mm XC)
6mm Rem
.256 win
6.5 Mannlicher Carcano
6.5 Mannlicher-Schoenauer(sp?)
7mm Sharpe & Hart

Neat to see the restoration of the rem 722, but would advise keeping the stock trigger until you go with a better barrel, if expecting gilt-edge accuracy. The new Eliseo stock is very interesting and looks more efficient.

On the same note, as the first paragraph, anyone know of any American choosing to chamber for a stock 7mm or 8mm Mauser? The .257 Roberts is still very popular, but are many rifles built or factory chambered for it in these times? Personally, I think owning a .218 Bee would be very cool, but the .22 K Hornet is maybe a bit more efficient and just as capable. Seems like the .22 Jet is no longer taking up space in our current loading manuals. How long before these other old-timers are relegated to an appendix or a manual of load data for old curiosities?
